his column with Tuesday's release WATER SUPPLY THREATENED AT BELLEVUE OHIO Official Says Reservoirs May Be Exhausted in Two Weeks BELLEVUE O Feb water famine day prompted Director G A Williams of Bellevue to ask Nickel Plate railroad officials to begin using a water train ately With the town's water supply at its lowest ebb in 27 years it can no longer supply the gallons used daily for the railroad's motives The railroad has been collecting tank cars for a week and will make trips to Sandusky Bay for water R H Hillhouse roundhouse fore- man said the train could carry gallons each trip A deep well has supplied the city with 750.000 gallons of water daily since November 15 The city uses gallons a day and the difference is made up by drawing from the city's four reservoirs Farmers Refused Water Williams said that at the present rate of water consumption the reservoir supply might be exhausted in two weeks Farmers whose wells have gone dry have been refused water by the city Until a week ago they filled their tanks at the city waterworks paying 25 cents for 10 barrels The city well which taps an underground stream is 204 feet deep Bellevue sewage also is dis- posed of through other ean streams The water from the town well is so hard that the Nickel Plate railroad has a plant Last week the railroad tried to drill a well of its own but the project stalled Saturday when drillers struck hard flint rock 50 feet down The town's budget will not permit drilling another well and installing pumping machinery DEFECTIVE WIRING FIRE Blaze Damages Large Section of Roof Fire caused considerable damage Saturday to the Gerald Williamson home on Summit Street The blaze was brought under control by city firemen after a large section of the roof had been damaged Chief TEST TACTICS USED IN CURRENT WAR Maneuvers to Be Held in Pacific in Strict Secrecy WASHINGTON Feb 5 The U S fleet during its forthcoming two- month maneuvers in the Pacific will test for the first time recent in naval warfare as revealed in the current European struggle it was learned day The naval high command plans to deploy 130 vessels of the U S battle fleet and 350 airplanes in a series of exercises designed to test effectiveness of American defenses in the light of latest European ex- The maneuvers will provide the naval command with its first op- to study tactics employed by the County authorities today placed first degree murder and arson charges against Darwin L Edgington 26 of West Union who confessed to them that he killed a married couple and set fire to their log cabin
