County commissioners check out a Transit Authority bus before vote Bill Moss at right Stanley M Smoot and Glen W Flint Davis Regional Program Transit Issue on Davis Ballot Special to The Tribune FARMINGTONDavis County voters will be asked Nov G if the county should join the Utah Transit Authori ty as part of a regional transit program the Davis County Commission announced Friday The commission said the transit question will be includ ed on the Nov 6 municipal ballot in the countys 16 cities and a special election will be held at the same time in the unincorporated areas of the bookshelves SL Area Briefs Driver Escapes Injury JL v In Explosive Accident A young motorist escaped serious injury in a crash al most directly in front of his home 1723 S West Temple Friday about pm Police Officer Charles Kickenlooper said the car of Scott Jackson Kiter 18 liter ally exploded when the young man collided with a util ity pole a tree and a parking sign Officer Hickenlooper said the cars gas tank was found 300 feet away The rear er flew across the street and through the wall of a house Power was knocked out from 300 West to Main Street and from 5th South to 21st South for almost two hours The vehicle sheared the utility pole dropping power lines on the road the officer said He estimated damage at about not including the de stroyed car He said Mr Kiter was trav eling at what witnesses de scribed as a high rate of speed and apparently lost control of his vehicle He was treated and released at University Medical Center County Davis and Weber counties are asking voter approval to become part of the UTA Terms of the annexation in clude purchase ef three Ogden based and one Salt Lake City based bus lines and financing the transit operations with funds appropriated by the state legislature from liquor sales profits Davis County would contribute over for the first years operation If the counties join the UTA bus service will be provided and then expanded Join UTA The county commissioners are not obligated to join the UTA if the transit issue pass es and can determine if a delay is needed before joining the authority Commissioner Stanley E Smoot said if the issue is passed by a sizable majority the county could be come a part of the UTA as early as March 11974 The commissioner said pub lic information meetings wiH held throughout the county to educate
