Straus won 70 of 100 votes during an afternoon  meeting of the House Republican Caucus. The vote was non-binding, but it put the San Antonio Republican on firm footing to win a second term as House speaker.  Relay for Life Kick Off event set for Jan. 25  I be American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Comal County committee seeks area residents to serve as committee members, team captains and volunteers. The ACS Relay For Fife of Comal County Kick Off will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic (.hurch, dHH N Castell Ave. Anyone interested in learning more about the ACS Relay For Life of ComaJ County is invited to the kick off event. The event will also include past Relay for Life team members, cancer survivors, caregivers, sponsors and those interested in participating in this year’s event. Relay for life is the local fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society. Money raised goes both to help cancer patients and to further research in an effort to eliminate the disease in its many forms. Due to the funds raised by the efforts of groups such as Relay For Life of Comal, many forms of cancer are curable, while others have treatments available that can prolong life.  Captains should come by to register their teams. They can pick up team packets, which contain information and forms, and can leam about any changes to this year’s Relay event.  I his year, there is no limit on the number of team members.
