New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - November 26, 2005, New Braunfels, Texas Page 6A — Herald-Zettung — Saturday, November 26, 2005BULVERDE CONTINUED FROM Page 1ACity Hall, others also participate in event community together.” About 2,500 were expected before the night was over, and by 6 p.m., Bulverde’s historic downtown, located at Bulverde Road and Cougar Bend, was bustling like that of a much larger community. “Everyone’s having a great time. Something else I'm really pleased about is, lookPLAYOFFS_ CONTINUED FROM Page 1ASome people road sponsored fem bus Cougar nachos, it’s tradition to eat them before a game.” Others opted to skip caravaning and ride a band-sponsored fan bus. Melin- at the city staff. City Hall employees, three-fourths of the police department and the rest of our employees are all here, and they’re all volunteering their time to do this for the community,” Stevick said. “This is just great!” Chief of Police Royce Goodson and Lt. Donna O’Conner had every officer save one either directing traffic or working the police booth, handing out balloons to children. “We’ve had a crowd here since about 4:30,” O’Conner said. “We prepared for 500 da Heilman and her family got seats on the bus so they could watch her nephew, sophomore Raul Herrera, play in the band. “If we don’t have to drive, we can get rowdy,” Heilman said. “Plus, we don’t have to drive and they will drop us off in the front of the stadium.” Some felt driving offered kids and we think we’ll see more than that. Our officers’ wives are also here helping. It’s a long day, but it’s fun. Well be tired tonight.” Goodson said the night was at least as fun for the police as it was for the community’s children. It was also important for both, he said. First, it allowed the kids to see officers up close — and to see them in a friendly, non-threatening environment. “I think it’s just good for children to be able to connect with us and see we’re more freedom, but by bus or by car, the fans realized that they all had the same goal. “I’m too rowdy for the just people, too,” Goodson said. “This allows children to learn they can approach us. One day, if they’re in trouble, they know they can talk to us.” Unfortunately, Goodson said, most of the time when children meet a police officer, it’s when the officer is responding to a domestic dispute or some other family disturbance. “This is a chance for us to do something positive," he said. Goodson turned, bent down to pre-school level, bus, I’m going to hoop and holler and honk the horn," Saur said. “We’re going to have fun no matter what happens.” CLICK b Visit our Web site www.herald-zeitung.com smiled, and handed Klar a balloon. She thanked Goodson and walked away with her mom, Carol, who did her best to explain what “Pixel Chix” are. “You remember those lit tle virtual pets people had? Carol asked. “It’s like a littb person. If you don't take can of it, you’ll get Virtual atti tude.’ Isn’t that nice?
