New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - August 27, 2005, New Braunfels, Texas Saturday, August 27, 2005 — Herald-Zeitung — Page 9A Rangers us long ball, solid pitching to blast Twins ARLINGTON (AP) — David Deliucci and Alfonso Soriano homered in a four-run third inning, and rookie Kameron Loe pitched five shutout innings in his second major league start as the Texas Rangers beat the Minnesota Twins 6-0 Friday night. I joe (6-4) was milking his first start of tile season after 40 relief appearances, and he allowed five hits and struck out five without a walk. Rookie C.J. Wilson allowed one hit over the final four innings for his first career save to help the Rangers to their fifth shutout of the season. Michael Young also home-red for the Rangers, who have won three of four at home following a 1-12 road trip, while Mark DeRosa went 3-for-4. Michael Ryan had three hits for the Twins, who have lost three straight and were shut out for the seventh time this season. Young’s 19th homer in the first off Kyle Lohse (8-12) was good for a 1-0 lead, but Young wasn’t sure the ball cleared the wall in right center. Center fielder Lew Ford made a long run and stuck his glove over the wall in an attempt to snag the drive, but Ford came down empty. Young, who had stopped at second, finished circling the bases when second base umpire John Hirschbeck gave the home run signal. Dellucci’s two-run blast in the third — his 22nd — stretched Texas’ lead to 3-0, and after Mark Teixeira doubled, Soriano added his 31st homer to make it 5-0. Soriano has 30 homers as a second baseman, becoming the third player at the position to reach that milestone in three straight seasons. Rogers I loms-by and Jeff Kent are the others. Soriano’s run-scoring double in the fifth made it 6-0. Lohse gave up six runs and nine hits in five innings. ,.£■982008! Or 10% discount for cash. Pettitte (12-9) allowed one run and six hits while striking out seven and walking one. Pitching a year and two days after undergoing elbow surgery that prematurely ended his First season with the Astros, he lowered his ERA to 2.60, the best in the majors among left-handers. Lowe (8-13) allowed two runs and seven hits over eight innings with five strikeouts and two walks. The right-han der, who has one more loss that he had last season with the World Series champion Boston Red Sox, matched Pettitte step for step until Biggio hit his 18th homer into the lower seats in the left field corner on an 0-1 pitch with one out in the eighth. Hie loss put the Dodgers a season-worst 14 games under .500 (57-71). Pettitte took a 1-0 lead into the seventh before Olmedo Saenz led off with a drive into the pavilion seats in right-center on a 2-0 pitch for his 13th homer—two more than his previous career high with Oakland in 1999.
