Mr. Thompson worked for Standard Oil Company of New Jersey for 20 years. He and his wife Helen moved to Plantation, Florida where they lived for 30 years and he worked as a Yacht Broker and Service Manager. They moved to New Braunfels in 1990. John Henry was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels and also was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, the American Legion and the V.F.W. He served in the United States Coast Guard during Wodd War IL Later he and his wife moved to Col lege Station in 2002. He is survived by his wife Helen Thompson of College Station, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Penrod Thornton of College Station; and their son Douglas Thornton. A Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station, Texas with Rev. Chris Coleman officiating. Visitations will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Memorials may be made to a Charity of or Church of Choice. James (Kirk) Kirkpatrick, of Canyon Lake, IX filed his new flight plan on Saturday, June 4,2005 at 9:15 p.m. for a better destination, after a long and valiant battle with prostate cancer. His exciting and challenging career as an aerospace engineer/experimental test pilot include training at Edwards AFB, certification of the first Learjet, flight test projects at Cessna, Beach, Fairchild/ Swearingen and he was selected as an astronaut candidate for the Apollo Space Program. Sailboat (racing) and computers were other interests, but family was his first priority. Jim is survived by his wife, Pat; two daughters/sons-inlaw and three grandads. Private family bedside services were held in preparation for his departure. Services under the direction of Zoeller Funeral Home. TAYS, USAF RETIRED Col. Robert H. ’Bob” lays, USAF, Retired, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the age of 83. He was bom in New Braunfels, Texas November 9, 1921 to Robert H. and Leonie (Streuer) Tays. I Ie married Trances B. Voigt in New Braunfels on December 20, 1945. She preceded him in death September 14,2004. Col. Tays served in the military during WWII from 1942 until 1945 and continued his service in the United States Air Force Reserves until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the 392nd Bomb Group, 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force Association and I lis-torical Society. I Ie served as an Educator in New Braunfels for 36 years in the NBISD and the GSD. I lis community service included, Masonic lodge 1109 AT & AM, Scottish Rite, Shrine, I .ions Club, Elks Fridge, Fogles, VFW Post 7110, American Legion, Deadalians, Chamber of Commerce RAP, and Texas State Teachers Association President. As a youth, Bob achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
