Carvalho of New Braunfels graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety's 129th training academy. Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams addressed the graduating class at Shoreline Center in Austin. Lf. Col. David McEathron, DPS assistant director, and Col. Thomas A. Davis Jr. director of the DPS, also participated in the ceremony. “Our graduates today will act as the first line of defense for the citizens of Texas against criminals of all sorts, from drunk drivers to terrorists,” Davis said. “We expect them to uphold and even enhance the proud tradition of the Texas Department of Public Safety.” The 27-week school is the longest continuous training academy offered by any law enforcement agency in Texas, and one of the longest in the nation. The cadets entered the academy in October and completed 1,214 hours of instruction, more than twice required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
