School board members voted 4-3 Ihursday night to accept (Charles Bradberry’s retirement agreement. I Ie had been on paid leave more than a month as the board looked into accusations that he didn’t comply with an open-records request made by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The documents were eventually released, but after the required IO day period. “Bradberry disputes the complaints, but recognizes that the very existence of such disputes makes it difficult for he and the board to move forward together," according to a joint statement from Bradberry and the board. Bradberry, 58. will remain superintendent through May 31 but will work only at the dis-t r i c t ’ s administration office for one week in January. After Jan. 9, Charles    he will use Bradberry    accrued paid leave for the rest of the school year, according to the statement. Assistant Superintendent Bill Newton will be acting superintendent. Bradberry will also be paid $122,000 by June I to buy out his contract, which was to expire lune 30,2006, Keller district attorney Tom Myers said. Bradberry earns $182,547 a year, according to his current contract. “I’m Fine," Bradberry said. “I’m OK with everything.” School board president Richard Walker said he could not discuss the matter. Bradberry has led the district since January 1997. During his tenure, the district has grown from about 12,000 students to 21,500. Before taking the job in Keller he was superintendent at New Braunfels Independent School District for 14 years. Bradberry came under scrutiny this year during an investigation of the district’s use of former roofing consult ant Phil Mayfield of PSM Consultants. The district’s attorney, who conducted the investigation, found no evidence of wrong doing, but Myers provided eight recommendations to help improve communication and eliminate the appearance of impropriety.
