Evans named outstanding engineering graduate Bryan Evans, a 1999 graduate of New Braunfels High School, was named the top engineering graduate by the University of Texas at Austin during graduation ceremonies Dec. 6. Evans, 22, was selected by the associate dean of academic affairs and awarded the Engineering Outstanding Schol-ar-Leader award. The award is presented each semester to a graduating senior in recognition of sustained superior academic performance and exceptional leadership while pursuing an engineering degree. Evans also was awarded two endowed presidential scholarships. He served as president of Sigma Gamma Tau and is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. “Bryan and his design partner are doing one of the most thorough designs I have seen in almost 20 years of teaching spacecraft and mission design," said one of Bryan’s professors. Evans earned his bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering. More than 40 friends and family members honored Evans’achievement Saturday night with a reception at the River Chase subdivision country club. , Evan’s parents, Diana and Douglas Mills of New Braunfels, said Evans will pursue a master’s degree at UT-Austin, beginning in January. “Bryan originally wanted to work for NASA,” his mother, Diana Mills, said. "But since receiving the award, he’s had a lot of job offers. We’re very proud of him. In fact, it’s hard to describe my feelings for what he’s accomplished.” Evans has one sister, Ashley, who is a freshman at New Braunfels High School. — Scott Mahon GOODFORYOU REBECCA S.
