New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - November 19, 2003, New Braunfels, Texas OBITUARIES Paid advertisements MARY LOUISE TORREY RADFORD BARR Mary Louise ioirey Radford Barr, musician, artist, and flower show judge died, Saturday, November 15,2003 at her home in Canyon Lake, Texas of an apparent heart attack. She was 88 years old. Mary Louise Torrey was born in Nashville, Tennessee on October 8,1915, the 3rd of five children. She attended Vanderbilt University where one of her class mates was Francis Rose Shore who became famous in movies and television as Dinah Shore. At Vanderbilt, Mary Louise wrote songs and music for several shows featuring the budding Dinah ShoreMary worked as a Spanish-English secretary in Washington DC for the embassy of Paraguay for many years and later was sent to the US embassy in Peru for two years. She was widowed twice. She married Rodney B. Radford, ChiefPhotographer for the US Air Force on May IO, 1952. On May IO, 1976 she married Col. Wallace David Ban who pre-deceased her in death by seven months. She is survived by her brother Brig. Gen. John D. Torrey, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; two sisters Carmen T. Malcolm of New Braunfels, TX; and Anita T. Rogers of St. Louis, MO. In addition there are three step children. Kathryn Turner of Logan, Utah, Barbara Brown of Fairbanks, Alaska, and David Barr of Brenham. Texas; eight grandchildren and a great grandchildren. Mary became well known as a flower show judge, teacher arid exhibitor. She was invited to represent the US in the international flower show in Chelsea,England in 1996. To her surprise, she was awarded Best of Show and received a gold medal and a steuben bowl. She was a board member of the International Council of State Garden Clubs, headquartered in St. Louis, and helped to establish flower show clubs in various cities around the world. Mary loved to travel and took many trips to Europe, Africa, New Zealand and other places tliroughout the world. She was especially fond of travel to Central America as she was fluent in Spanish and often gave Flower Show lectures there. She was a lifelong Episcopalian, an accomplished organist, and was very active in church activities on the local and regional level. In addition, Mary Louise had a fond love for animals and supported the local animal shelter and other causes for animal care throughout the world. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at 10:30 am at the St. Francis by the Lake Episcopal Church, 13250 Hwy..306. Canyon Lake, Texas. The church phone number is (830) 964-3820. Krueger of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2003, at his residence at the age of 74 years. Kermit was born on September 17,1929, to William J Krueger and Alwina (Staats) Krueger in Cibolo, Texas. He married Evelyn Jane (Armke) Krueger on June 26,1951, in Cibolo, Texas. Kermit was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ and V.F.W. Post 7110. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Krueger of New Braunfels; I daughter, Karen Kramm and husband Kelvin of Cibolo; 2 sons, Dennis Krueger, Sr. and his wife Nan cy of Spring Branch, Texas, and Ronald Krueger and wife Sue of Spring, Texas; 2 brothers, Werno Krueger of San Antonio and Olyn Krueger and wife Norma of Seguin, Texas; I sister, Evelyn Knuep-per and husband Gerhard of Converse, .Texas; IO grandchildren, Kimberly Kramm, THELMA C. MACDONALD Thelma C. MacDonald, age 92, of New Braunfels, and formerly of Elyria, Ohio, passed away, Friday. November 14, 2003, at McKenna Memorial Hospital.
