Monday night, Superintendent Ron Reaves recognized Spain for her service. She served two terms as board president. one as vice president and has also been secretary and treasurer. Her expertise would be missed, Reaves said. “Bette has been a strong advocate for children and teachers since she was first elected to the board nine years ago,” Reaves said. “A teacher herself, she always knew how to get a job done.” During her tenure, Reaves said, Spain supported bond referendums, fought for binding and employee benefits and worked to make NBISD a better district. “She has juggled many volunteer activities in the school system and the community," Reaves said. “We will miss her, but we know she will continue to be an advocate for public education.” — Ron Maloney Birthdays/Anniversaries HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO: ■ Olga Velasquez-Villarreal ■ Elane Ramsdell ■ Rita Ann Martinez ■ Hector Molina Sr. ■ Richard Mulkey ■ Air rani »a Mulkey, I year old ■ Mark Potsie Agulree ■ Leone!
