Beginning Aug. 21, ticket sales will be open to the general public until Aug. 26. For information, contact Pat Douglas, 627-6000. ►Schlitterbahn Softball Festival The second annual Schlitterbahn Softball Festival, sponsored by New Braunfels Bombers Fastpiteh Softball takes place this weekend. The tournament will have near 1(K) teams participating in eight age groups at four different locations. The IO-and-younger and 12-and-younger portion of the tournament takes place in New Braunfels at Camp Comal arid Fredncksburg fields. Cody Key 12:30 p.m. Shelby Stevens GOLF/From 1B Taylor Karle came out on top this year, carding a 36-hole total of 147 (74-73) to win the hard-fought Girls 12-14 Division, in which the top fives finishers were separated by total of five strokes. Houston’s Cory Whitsett spent the entire tournament under par, wrapping up the Boys 10-11 Division with an 18-hole total of 66 (32-34). Lisa McCloskey of Montgomery won the Girls 10-11 Division with an 18-hole total of 81 (41-40). With play completed in four divisions and the Boys 15-18 and Girls 15-18 Divisions cut to the top 50 plus ties, play in the final round of the 2003 Tbxas State Junior Championships will commence at 7 a.m. today.Sports Calendar ►Hook a Kid on Golf Sundance Golf Course was selected again to host the “Hook a Kid on Golf’ program, a national golf skills development program administered by the National Alliance for Youth Sports. The next available clinic is scheduled for Aug. 11-15 at Sundance Golf Course. Hook a Kid on Golf is aimed at youngsters who normally do not have the opportunity to play golf The first level of the program is a 'Fee Level Clinic in which locally sponsored youngsters receive a free week-long instruction clinic. Youngsters also get to keep a starter set of golf clubs after the clinic. Youngsters ages 8-13 are able to participate* through $125 pre-paid sponsorships from area businesses and individuals. I/K-al D A.K F. officers give ii presentation on the merits of staying drug free while treating the youth to mock competitions with their bag of gag golf clubs. Sundance’s maintenance superintendent teaches the juniors how to cut a new cup on the green and howto properly repair a ball mark. The tournament director gives an explanation of the golf rules. And finally, the week wraps up with a hot dog cookout with picnic makings supplied by the clinic participants. To be eligible for participation in the Hook a Kid on Golf tee level clinics, youngsters must have never played golf, not own a set of golf dubs and be bet ween the ages of 8 and 13.
