allstar mania is here For those sports fans who do not have children between the ages of 8 and 16 playing Little League base the next couple of weeks might get a little confusing Even if you do have young boys or girls of summer in the family you might get a little turned around Today at 6 at the New Braunfels Little League Fields on Loop 337 more than 250 Little Leaguers can pick up their allstar uniforms and get their allstar team photos taken for the newspaper During the next couple of weeks the HeraMZeitung will run those photos in the sports section of the paper If several players or coaches on the team are not present to have their photo taken today it is up to the coach or team mom to shoot and submit a team photo sometime next week The HeraldZeitung will first run those photos taken today then the rest of the photos in the order they are turned in BRYAN ADAMS If it rains today all photos need to be taken and turned in by a coach or team mom I have to admit times have changed since played Little League during the days of parachute pants Stars Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi and two World Series championships by the Los Angeles Dodgers There were not as many Little League AllStar teams back then I played at McAllister Park Little League in San Antonio and when the regular season ended there were six allstar teams selectedThere was a Minor AltStar team players ages a Major All Star team players ages a Junior AllStar team players ages 1314 and a Senior AllStar team players ages And there was a Major Softball AllStar team and a Junior Softball AllStar team This year New Braunfels Little League will sponsor 23 AllStar teams Having this many allstar teams is good for the kids because more young players can call them selves Nowadays there are district all stars and state allstars State all stars are basically the best of the best like we had at McAllister Park The special district allstar tournaments which begin on Monday allow pretty good players the opportunity to play a few more games at a higher level of competi tion At the end of the Little League regular season NBLL coaches voted on all stars and drafted two Minor baseball teams two Major baseball teams one Major softball team two Junior baseball teams and one Junior softball team After the state teams were select ed NBLL coaches and officials voted and drafted district allstar teams District allstar teams are cut up into more slices Instead of combining the best 912yearold players on one allstar team the teams are divided up for each age group Last year NBLL sponsored two 13yearold district allstar baseball teams two 12yearold baseball teams three 11yearold baseball teams two 10yearold baseball teams four 9yearold base ball teams and two 8yearold base ball teams NBLL also sponsored one 10yearold district allstar soft ball team and one 9yearold team The number of district allstar teams was reduced slightly from last year See LITTLE
