New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung (Newspaper) - March 2, 2003, New Braunfels, Texas cable show focuses oil making city safer Staff Writer A new cop show has come to Mew Braunfels cable tele vision Instead of big box office stats it banks on local talent The New Biraunfels Safe City Commission and Chief of Police Russell Johnson launched a new halfhour cable show BWday afternoon The show Focusing on a Safer will be recorded each month for broadcast on Channel 21 which is the gov ernment access cable televi sion channel for New Braun fels Each month host Ron Frieaenhahn and Johnson will discuss activity at the police department crime pre vention tips and other infor mation in a talk show format Fridays edition which focused on the intertwined roles of the police department the Safe City Commission and the public in combating crime was taped in the city council chambers Friesenhahn a local attor ney radio personality and member of the Safe City Commission said future pro grams could be taped else where depending upon the topic Well sort of evolve the pro he said Friesenhahn opened the program by talking of what the Safe City Commission is and what it does Appointed by the mayor the commission oversees crime Group needs donations for adopted unit prevention activities such as National Night Out against Crime Operation Identifica tion a program to make personal property less valu able to thieves window etching and Neighborhood Watch among others The Safe City Commission meets the first Thursday of each month at the New Braunfels Police Department Overall Johnson said New Braunfels is a pretty safe com munity But people can go a long way toward making it safer he said by practicing com monsense crime prevention People need to be a little more aware Dont leave any thing snack sized bags of chips nonmelt fee peanut brittle nonper ishable snack foods no home baked AA batteries puzzles blank cassette tapes dice and other small light weight items Quent also is interested in getting the names and addresses of other area mili tary family members deployed in the Middle East Maybe we can get the word out to other auxiliaries and they could adopt a unit she said Items can
