The realization came to the old board that it was time to have some young members on the board and some new ideas. “During 1973-75 ‘younger’ members were elected to the board. They were: Jack Ohlrich, Carroll U. Hoffmann, Joe Faust, Mrs. Margaret Naegelin, Doyle Krueger and Raymond A. Bartram. With them came new and active committee members: Mrs. Robert Pfeuffer, Mrs. James Bredewater, Mrs. Merritt Schumann, Mrs. Doyle Krueger, Mrs. WiUiam Porter and Mrs. Herbert Schneider. Presidents were: 1974-75 Carroll Hoffmann; 1975-76 Joe Faust; 1976-77 Raymond A. Bartram. Mrs. C.F. Naegelin is president now (1977). “A building committee consisting of the foUowing members has been respon-. sible for the completion of the first three phases of the museum building program: Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Krueger, co-chairmen, Mr. Walter Faust, Mrs. Alfred Liebscher, Mr. Tom Burrus, Mrs. Nancy David and Dr. Mitchell Sacco. Mr. Pat Weaver was the architect Note: The Looking Back column, which normally runs Saturdays, will return in the Feb. 8 edition. Courtesy Sophienburg-New Braunfels Archives and Museum of History Edna Faust and Otie Coret at the Sophienburg in the 1950s. and Mr. Frank Weber the contractor. “The museum itself consists of three separate but integrated departments. The first is the display function carried on in the exhibit building, featuring the artifacts, art objects and antiquarian products of the early settlers of frontier Texas. The displays are intended to depict life as it was and the history and sociology of the vibrant and energetic people who were our forefathers. “The second department of the museum is the storage, acquisition and restoration section, which is lodged in a section of the archives building. Shelving and storage facilities have been provided there, and much money has been expended in restoring and preserving. 'The third section of the museum is composed of the archives. An unusual amount of material is catalogued, ordered and stored there. Perhaps this department is the most important for we have more of the documents of the German-Texans gathered there than any other town or institution. There are still many treasures in private homes in New Braunfels and Comal County, in the form of instruments, documents and music, which the museum is anxious to acquire for preservation and safekeeping. “Museums speak not only of artifacts, shards and slivers of the past. They speak of the people who have had a glorious past and are proud of it. The Sophienburg respectfully pays homage to this!” [arket lace Times Good Fri., Jan. 31st - Thurs. Feb. 6th 65! My husband and I always go to his parents’ for Christmas dinner, followed by the exchange of gifts. In all the years Ive been married to their son, my in-laws have never once included me in the gift exchange. When we started our family, they were gtxxi about giving a gift to each grandchild — and always to my husband — but never to me. Trust me, Abby, its not the gift I care about, its the fact that they go through this routine in my husband’s presence and he never says one word about it. How should I handle it next year? If I speak up, it could cause a family feud, and dissension between my husband and me. Must I simply resign myself to the fact that this is the way it is? — EXTREMELY REJECTED IN NEW JERSEY DEAR EXTREMELY REJECTED: Tell your husband that unless you can be assured that you’ll be treated with the respect you deserve next Christmas, it will be your last with his family. Recently, Mom’s sister, “Velda,” visited her and asked the caregiver on duty to bring her a silver pitcher from Mother’s dining room. Velda told the caregiver, “No one needs to know,” and took it. Of course, the caregiver promptly reported the incident to me, and I picked up the phone and confronted Aunt Velda. At first she denied taking the pitcher — then she said it had originally belonged to their deceased brother. Then she accusal ME of wanting it for myself and ended the conversation by sarcastically saying she thought Mother seemed “fine” to her — and hung up on me! What makes this so aggravating is it Isn’t the first time this has happened. One of my brothers says to forget it. The other is ready to file theft charges.
