This month’s guest speaker will be Port O’Connor Red fisherman, Bill Cauldwell. The CCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Texas’ coastal sport fisheries. The chapter includes Hays, Guadalupe and Comal Counties. Regular chapter meetings usually take place every third Tuesday of each month For information, contact Doug Webb at (830) 905-2589. ► NB Chew Boosters The New Braunfels High School Cheerleader Booster Club will have a Big Blue “Patio Party” drawing during halftime at Friday’s home football game. This week’s package includes prizes valued at more than $800. It includes an iron barbecue pit with wood from Backyard Outfitters and two custom-made cutting boards from Cliff’s Cabinet Shop, as well many other great items from local merchants. Tickets are $1 each and are available through any New Braunfels Cheerleader parent, at First Commercial Bank and at all Unicom home football games. Participants do not need to be present to win. ► Westin Texas Open Open qualifying for the PGA Tour’s 2001 Westin Texas Open will take place Monday at Cedar Creek Golf Course in San Antonio. The entry fee of $200 is due at the Southern Texas PGA office (110 Commercial Circle, Conroe, TX, 77304) by 5 p.m. Monday. The entry fee includes practice balls and a shared cart on the day of the competition. Payment of the entry fee may be made by cash, cashier’s check, money order, traveler’s check or credit card. The 18-hole stroke play qualifying round will be used to determine four entries and two alternates for play in the 2001 Westin Texas Open, to be played Sept. 27-30 at La Cantera Golf Club in San Antonio. The qualifying event is open to professionals and amateurs with a verifiable USGA handicap index of 2.0 or less. For information, call Paul Domanski at 625-7738. ► Shrine Club Golf The Canyon Lake Shrine Club hosts the Fourth Annual Golf Scramble on Oct. 19 at the Canyon Lake Golf Club at 8 a.m. The tournament proceeds will benefit the Texas Bum and Orthopedic Hospitals. The cost to participate is $60 per person. There will be no registration on the day of play.
