The family expresses its gratitude to all who attended the funeral. Mr. Moureau was bom in Dillenburg, Nassau, on July 17, 1825. He moved to Texas in 1849. He married Miss Alwine Vom Stein in October, 1850. Three daughters survive. IOO years ago (1901) Translator: Betty Pfeuffer Triesch The concert on Dec. 26 in Matzdorff’s Hall had good weather and was well-attended. The orchestra, under direction of Ed Gruene, opened the concert. Then Echo Singing Society presented several numbers. The quintet from the New Braunfels Men’s Chorus was next. This was followed by a male trio with Miss Druebert accompanying on the piano. Following the concert, a dance was held which went late into the night. The weather was good New Year’s Eve, so dances were well-attended. New Year’s dances were held in the festively decorated armory by the Clemen’s Rifles and the New Braunfels Men’s Chorus. In Matzdorff Hall the Echo Singing society held their dance to welcome the New Year. CIGAR-MAKING BUSINESS ESTABLISHED ... The brothers Carl and Robert Schreier have started a cigar-making business. They are using a shipment of tobacco from East Texas which is satisfactory in everyway. 75 years ago (1926): Arlene Krueger Seales THE COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE .. y\gain, as last year, there appeared on the Plaza a Community Christmas Tree .,. This movement is being sponsored by the Child’s Welfare Club, supported by the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, the American Legion, the Woodmen, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Civic Improvement Club and a personal gift of the tree by the Mayor, F.G. Blumberg ... The tree was placed on the plaza and appeared in its glory, illuminated with electric lights, from the night of the 24th, throughout the ROSEMARIE LEISSNER Gregory whole week. Then on the evening of Saturday the 26 at 7:30 p.m., an appropriate musical program, with the assistance of our local singing societies and preachers, was had. PRIZE AWARD . .. Some two weeks ago, the Herald offered to give a ten-dollar gold piece to the party arranging the most attractive window display and Tuesday of this week the prize went to The Bon Ton Millinery Store, Mrs. Fay Faust, proprietress who also arranged the display. Three judges, neither of whom was interested in any way in the exhibits, made the rounds of the town separately, and getting together later compared notes and decided that Mrs. Faust was first choice with the Henne Hardware Company a close second. Those who have lived here for years and seen the annual Christmas window displays declare the 1925 displays just a little more tastily arranged than in any previous occasion. The Herald wishes to thank the three judges for their interest in the work and feels that their decision will meet with general approval. 50 years ago (1951): Rosa Linda De La Cerda Little Josefa Rodriguez, eight pound baby girl bom to Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Rodriguez, became “Miss New Braunfels of 1951” just five minutes after the deadline on New Year’s Day. She also became the 20th winner in the Baby Derby sponsored by The Herald and local merchants who will furnish the little tyke a shower of gifts to herald the county’s first baby. Comal County is going dry. Dry of water, that is ... Since the first of November, when the drought began to be felt here, the county has been hauling water for domestic consumption to residences within about a five or six-mile radius of the city ... Wells have gone dry, tanks have gone dry, and all along Highway 81, Father cannot bear to see his chick fly the coop DEAR ABBY: I’m writing about a delicate problem with my father. I’m 22 and due to graduate from college in just a few months. Eve always planned on moving out once I graduated and got a job, and I have made this clear to my father and my family. My father, however, is in serious denial about it, and it is only getting worse. For more reasons than I can begin to explain, I can’t bear living here anymore. But my father is dependent on me and refuses any psychological help whatsoever, which I know he desperately needs. — READY FOR LIFE IN MICHIGAN DEAR READY FOR LIFE: Perhaps your father is having trouble believing you’ll be leaving because you have been at home for so long. Whatever his reasons, growing up and becoming independent is normal, and you shouldn't feel guilty: Family counseling could be helpful for both of you. DEAR ABBY: While I usually agree with your answers, I respectfully disagree with your advice to “Anonymous in Michigan,” who had been sent an inexpensive invitation to a family member’s wedding whereas, the writer believed, others had received an embossed invitation. You counseled that the appropriate response to this supposed slight might be not to attend the wedding. Dear Abby Abby, maybe that couple was short on funds; perhaps the invitation maker made an error and sent them fewer than they had ordered. My advice to “Anonymous” would be to send them a nice present, go to the wedding, enjoy two slices of wedding cake and dance long into the night. — KAREN DE CROW, ATTORNEY AT LAW, JAMESVILLE, N.Y. DEAR KAREN: While I agree that it would be better if the writer had been magnanimous (defined in my Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary as “loftiness of spirit enabling one to bear trouble calmly, to disdain meanness and pettiness”), it was clear from the letter that the person’s nose was seriously out of joint. The implication received along with the computer-generated invitation was that they had not been invited until someone had refused. And that’s the reason I said, “FEELING AS YOU DO (italics are mine), send the couple a lovely card wishing them every happiness and forgo attending the wedding.” the residents are in pretty bad shape for water, not only for cooking and washing, but for their stock, also ... The county buys water from the city and hauls 1,000 gallon loads of water to each home which needs it, at a fee of $3 per load. The cost is higher as the distance from town increases. The money pays for the services of the driver and the bill which must eventually be paid the city for the water. 25 years ago (1976) Myra Lee Adams Goff For the first time in eight years, the Bob Uhrs had a “complete” Christmas in their own home. Making the family picture complete was the arrival of daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Dick Denson, and daughter, Susan Denise from Omaha, Nebraska, on Dec. 24, and a day later the arrival of son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Karen Uhr, and three children, Bradley, Kristin, and Kimberly, of Dallas. Also joining the group was Mr. Denson’s mother, Mrs. Alma Denson of Arlington. The Barry Uhrs returned to Dallas Sunday. The Densons’ plans are for a much, much longer stay in New Braunfels, since they have purchased Dedeke’s Housewares and will make their home here. Recently installed at the entrance of Cypress Bend Park is this board fence which Don Simon, parks director, said was done to permanently close the old entrance past the trees at the right. The roads in the park have also been paved, eliminating dust and the washboard ride. The possible addition of a few area lights will complete improvements begun two years ago, said Simon. The $20,000 for the pavilion and restroom and other improvements Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 came from revenue sharing money and a certificate of deposit.
