PORT ARTHUR AP Texas Coaches Hall of Fame member Richard Marler from Port Arthur has died in a Houston hospital He was 57 A Floydada native and Texas Tech graduate Marler had been in a coma the past three months since being hospitalized for an Aug 20 heart attack He died Wednesday The executive director and founder of the sixyearold Southeast Texas High School Coaches Association Marler received statewide recognition for pushing legislation to reduce the original nopass noplay penalty in to three weeks from its original sixweek disqualification of students from any extracurricular activities Marler led Port Arthur Austin and Jefferson high schools to 11 playoff berths in 26 head coaching seasons leading two teams to the 3A state semifinals and compiling a 589 winning percentage He had been head football coach at Jefferson since 1998 and coached at Port Arthur Austin from 1975 to 1997 No 13 Texas Tech sinks No 9 Penn St ST THOMAS Virgin Islands AP Katrisa ONeal scored 24 points to Braunfels side of Unicorn Stadium roared We They must believe in miracles With 15 seconds left in the game and no timeouts left New Braunfels wide receiver Chris Cameron caught a gamewinning 35yard Hail Mary1 pass from quarterback Craig Crow for a touchdown to give the Unicorns a 2825 win over the Cavaliers I was just praying to God to help me catch the Cameron said 1 knew 1 had to somehow just catch it and luckily 1 was able to come up with it I didnt know where any of the defenders were 1 went up for the ball and tried my best to get With the win the Unicorns advanced to the regional
