A 5-gallon keg sells for $2.25 and a glass of beer for five cents. On arrival home from Germany, Franz Moureau and family were serenaded by the singing club. A short speech was made by Hermann Seele. Moureau was welcomed and he in turn welcomed all into his home. The cotton harvest is almost finished. The sweet potato crops are outstanding with some weighing over 12 pounds. It has been an outstanding year for the farmers. The Schumannsville Band played and the Singing Society sang at the opening of Ed Buch’s Saloon in Schumannsville. Many people joined the celebration which went on until 4:00 a.m. Dietrich Knibbe of Twin Sisters Valley area in Kendall Co. has so far brought 70 bales of cotton to be ginned. He hopes to bring a total of IOO bales this year. 75 years ago (1925): Arlene Krueger Seales Mr. William Dierks, one of the oldest citizens of our coiinty, died Saturday, Oct. 24, at the age of 90 years and one month. Deceased was bom at Oettingen; in the former kingdom pf Hanover, September 22, 1835, and when a lad of IO years came to this country with his parents spending his later childhood and youth at New ROSEMARIE LEISSNER Gregory Braunfels. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted and fought for the Southern cause. Departed belonged to those famous teamsters who were hauling freight from the coast to places in the interior of the state. After he had married Miss Augusta Kopplin in 1866 he settled at Schoenthal where he engaged in farming and stockraising. Seven years ago he moved to Comaltown with his wife and where his children, grandchildren often gathered. Mr. Dierks is survived by the widow, 2 sons, Willie and Hermann, 2 daughters, Mrs. Emma Dierks and Mrs. Ida Steubing, 2 daughters-in-law, IO grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Burial took place last Sunday afternoon at the Comal Cemetery with military honors by the Comal Post American Legion; Rev. G. Momhinweg conducted the religious part of the service. When the casket was being lowered the Junior Choir rendered an appropriate song, and Mr. Anton Reininger closed the impressive services blowing taps. The following grandchildren acted as pallbearers: Eldon Dierks, Walter Dierks, Walter Steubing, Harry Knibbe, Herbert Wuest and' Eugene Krause. The honorary pallbearers were Alb. Kopplin, Paul Richter, Phillip Link, Wm. Zipp, Sp., Robert Bretzke and Ad. Kirmse. 50 years ago (1950): Rosa Linda De La Cerda Teen mom regrets her choice to pass up going to college DEAR ABBY: I am 19 and the mother of a 4-month-old son. I have a high school diploma and some vocational training. I was accepted into college after my high school graduation, but decided not to go away to school so I could stay with the man I love. Had I gone, I would be in my junior year. Luckily for me, a local company took a chance and gave me a job where I earn fairly good money. However, if I could do it over again, I would go away to college and gain the credentials for a career with good financial prospects. Because I speak from experience, I have something to say to parents: Try to have a close, honest relationship with your children. Educate them about sex. Stress how important abstinence is, but also teach them about birth control and how to use it effectively. Do not just tell them to “abstain;” explain why they should. My mother told me not to have sex. However, she didn’t impress on me why I should wait. Now I have a child I’m struggling to take care of. To young people, I say: Don’t do what I did. Complete your education. Take some time growing up. Live a little before starting a family. Believe me, there’s plenty of time to have children when you are mature. I love my son, but it would have been better for both of us if I had waited until I was more mature and had finished my education. — STRUGGLING IN GEORGIA DEAR STRUGGLING: Once the rose-colored glasses come off, there's nothing like the clarity of 20-20 hindsight. I hope that parents and teen-agers will take your letter to heart. It contains some important truths. Dear Abby Market <piac< Times Good Fri. Nov. 17 - Tues. Nov. 21 651 Business Loop, IH 35 N. The highlight of the senior pep rally for the Seguin game Friday morning was the trial of the teachers, in which Merlyn Murphy acted as the “impartial” judge, Hugh Lackey, the devil, and Mary Lou Rust, the angel. Each member of the faculty was found guilty of charges and was sentenced to Hades, with the exception of the senior class sponsors, Mr. C.L. Weigel, Mrs. Mabel Calhoun, Mr. Robert Dedeke, and Superintendent of Schools Dr. E.A. Sahm. The senior of 50 entered the gym with the traditional elephant walk, and seniors “Goofy” Hoffmann, Gary Voigt, and Karl Zipp opened the rally with several jazz numbers, followed by a review of the highlights of past pep rallies. Ray Dean Maus, class president, acted as master of ceremonies. Mrs. Agatha Tausch, 84, only living charter member of Comal Lodge No. 45, was presented with a 50-Year, Service Pin at the regular monthly meeting Sunday at Echo Hall. Grand President Biebers made the presentation. 25 years ago (1975) Myra Lee Adams Goff Accompanied by Robert Tenayuque, senior Sandra Morales was named 1975 NBHS homecoming queen Friday night at halftime of the Unicom-Judson game.
