In October the Herald-leitung will publish a comprehensive guide to the events that are held each year. This publication is a main source of information for visitors and residents. A colorful festive 16 page guide will be inserted into the paper on Sunday, October 29,2000. DEADLINE: Friday, October 13 40«> ANNUAL WURSTFEST New Braunfels, Texas Foundation seeks donations To donate to the New Braunfels I SD Education Foundation, contact Stephanie Ferguson in the school district’s public information office at 643-5720. Money raised will be used for mini-grants for teachers beginning in the spring 2001. [Traffic Safety Recognition set Members of the New Braunfels ISD Board of Trustees will recognize lawmakers, state officials, city, county and business leaders who were involved in improving traffic safety on Loop 337 in the area of New Braunfels High School during a ceremony on at IO a.m. Wednesday at NBHS. The ceremony on Wednesday will celebrate the efforts of everyone working together as partners by combining resources to increase the traffic safety near New Braunfels High School. State Senator Jeff Wentworth, State Representative Edmund Kuempel and representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation will join school district officials in addressing the need for continued safety. Other local dignitaries will also attend the ceremony. The new traffic signal, a traffic safety arm, and a traffic flow plan for the high school will be dedicated. For information about the ceremony contact the NBISD public information office, 643-5720. Homecoming activities planned I New Braunfels High School homecoming is set for Oct. 27. While the Unicorns prepare to take on the Cougars at 7:30 p.m., many organizations are planning homecoming activities. ' A fajita taco dinner, sponsored by the school’s cheerleaders and dance team members, will be served before the homecoming game from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. Adult plates can be purchased for $5 in advance or $7 at the door. A child’s plate can be bought for $3 in advance or $5 at the door. Entertainment will be provided. Tickets can be bought at First Commercial Bank, All American Scrapbook, New Braunfels High School office, or from any cheerleader or dance team member. By Stephanie Ferguson New Braunfels ISD Students and teachers at Carl Schurz Elementary are putting the finishing touches on their performance for the school’s 75th anniversary celebration on Saturday at the school, 633 W. Coll St. Directed by music teacher Heather Klossner, and written by fourth grade teacher Dave Heefner, all students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade (and some teachers) will perform in the "75th Anniversary Pageant." The pageant will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Musical numbers will be performed from each decade of the past 75 years. Students will wear costumes from the different time periods. "The pageant is a retrospective of the past 75 years," Klossner said. "Those attending will hear how music has changed over the years and also how music can bring back to our mind a different time in history." • Beginning at I p.m. the school will be open for tours and a special photo and memorabilia display will be available for viewing in the gym. • At 2 p.m. a rededication ceremony will be conducted in the front courtyard. Speakers include: New Braunfels ISD Board of Trustees President Bill Biggadike and Superintendent Ron Reaves. • The pageant begins at 2:30 p.m. • A video written and produced by Cindy Ansorge’s fifth grade class will be shown at 3 p.m. • Refreshments will be served at 3:30 p.m. in the courtyard behind the cafeteria. Carl Schurz Elementary first opened on Sept. I, 1925. The school has transformed as buildings have been added and renovated. Carl Schurz is now a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade neighborhood campus. The school was named Carl Schurz after the German-American statesman who lived from 1829 to 1906. His works contributed to high standards of justice, responsibility, and citizenship. For information, call 625-7361. Mill St., 620-6200. NBHS cheerleader clinic sponsored The New Braunfels High School cheerleaders will sponsor a cheerleading clinic from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the NBHS gym. Participants will learn cheers, chants, cheer dancing and jumps. The clinic is open to students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The cost is $20 and sign-up is at the door on the day of the clinic. All participants will earn T-shirts. For information, contact Kristy Castilleja at the high school at 625-6271.
