Camp K JESSIE Big 12 has five teams in latest AP hoops poll BY STEVE BRISENDINE Associated Press Writer Every year during the preseason college basket ball coaches like to talk about how tough their respective conferences are This year the Big 12 coaches just might be right Headed into February the conference has five teams in The Associated Press Top 25 The latest rankings released Monday have those five teams in a tight grouping Oklahoma State at No 13 Kansas at No 15 Texas at No 16 Oklahoma at No 18 and Iowa State jumping into the poll at No 20 after beating Kansas 7466 on Saturday Some coaches thought Missouri eighth on the others receiving votes list should also have been ranked I think we ought to have six teams in the Baylors Dave Bliss said Monday during the coach es weekly conference call I think most of the coaches will feel that way This is just a banner year for our said Bliss whose team picked up its first Big 12 victory last week against Texas Tech Right now its too tough for us sometimes but it speaks volumes about the power in this Its also a welcome change from last year when the Big 12 struggled for respect in the polls We talked about not being a great league a year ago but weve grown Texas coach Rick Barnes said Theres no league in the country that can expect more teams in the NCAA tournament than the Big Barnes even gives Colorado the team his
