said The vote Thursday night appeased citizens who were outraged over a proposal to move the school to the east side of 281 Before the vote several of them once again accused trustees of betraying voters and a twophase million bond issue approved at the polls in May Charles Burt a member of the district bond oversight committee criticized trustees for their indeci siveness I am Burt said I cant believe this is how we make decision in this district The ones paying the price for the indecisive ness of this board is our Burt said the debate over the new elementary school would prevent the school from opening in Aug 2001 as promised to voters Burt said voters had a right to know why Krueger voted down the Borgfeld Road property at the Dec 17 board meeting Burt also criticized Bertelsen and Jonas for supporting a proposed alternative bond plan At one point Krueger asked Burt to not point fingers at individual trustees but audience members urged Burt to continue talking v Michael Glenn warned trustees that continued growth near Tim berwood Park only would make traffic congestion worse if they built the school north of Cibolo Creek SPORTS BRIEFS Because of early deadlines for todays sports pages the Herald Zeitung is publishing late Thursday scores here Spurs 92 Timbenvolves 80 SAN ANTONIO AP With Tim Duncan scoring 20 points the San Antonio Spurs ended the Minnesota Avery Johnson Duncan added had 14 rebounds and Robinson 12 and the pair combined to block nine shots Duncan had five After holding only a 4947 early in the third quarter the Spurs maintained a doublefigure lead after Jerome Kerseys fast break dunk put them ahead 6757 with left in the third Mavericks 117 Warriors 103 DALLAS AP Michael Finley scored 30 points 22 in the first half as the Dallas Mavericks completed a season sweep of the Golden State Warriors with a 117 103 victory onTUesday night The fourth game between the teams was marked by three ejec tions arising from two incidents in the third quarter Dirk Nowitzki added 23 points and Cedric Ceballos had 18 in the Mavericks fifth victory in seven games their most successful stretch of the season If you choose to not build the school south of Cibolo Creek and my kid is on the bus and gets in an accident I will hold all of you Glenn said telling trustees they had had lost the trust of voters It takes the voters to get you in and it takes the voters to get you Glenn said If you think youll need another bond in the future think again You wont get Glenn said he would be satisfied if trustees committed to building the school south of Cibolo Creek Rose Cervin was the only resi dent to voice support of a school being built on the east side of 281 Cervin said she was concerned about the safety of children because of increased traffic on 281 Thursday nights board meeting marked the second round of an emotional public debate about what some residents said was an attempt by the board to change the bond issue About 150 citizens attended a Jan 13 board meeting to voice their concerns bitterly lashing out against trustees for going against the voters who approved three new elementary schools and a new high school north of Canyon Lake For the past month the board has been split on the issue which erupt ed after Bertelsen proposed an alter native bond package that would change attendance zones and put the new elementary school on the east side of 281 and the new high school on the west side Bertelsen said the plan would address the problems of increased mileage and unbalanced enrollment in Proposition 2 of the current bond plan During the bond campaign the district outlined three general areas for the new elementary schools and designated the area north of Canyon Lake as the future site of the new high school Bertelsen said the mileage impact of a proposed new high school on the north side of Canyon Lake would force stu dents in the Startzville area to dri ve up to an hour and a half to get to school Bertelsen along with Jonas and Gonzales favor an east side location for the elementary school because they said it would give the district more flexibility with future atten dance boundaries and allow for a true school feeder system CD maturing APY 1yr PDIC insured Noncallable Rates current as of 12500 Offer subject to availability and rates are subject to change HIGHEST RATES IN THE
