I bought a gun because I travel long distances alone. I called the police to ask them the best way to travel with a gun without getting in trouble with them. They instructed me to put the clip in the trunk of my car and the gun on the seat beside me. I was telling a friend about this and said that if I got into trouble, the gun would be useless. Her 14-year-old son spoke up and said, “No, there’s a bullet still in the chamber even after the clip is removed.” I asked my father if this was true, and he confirmed it. He removed the clip from my gun and instructed me to go outside and pull the trigger. I did, and, indeed, it had a bullet in the chamber! I have often wondered how people could shoot themselves while cleaning a gun. I had no idea that when the clip was removed, a gun could still be loaded.— DEBRA IN OKLAHOMA CITY ROSEMARIE LEISSNER Gregory Red Cross drive, the cancer drive, the Kegler Day tournament, the Boy and Girl Scout drive, and the Miss Texas contest. I at McKenna Memorial Hospital, making her the first baby bom in Comal County. Obviously, the 7 pound 8 ounce baby wanted the honor badly; she was expected to make her arrival on Dec. 10. Parents of Angie, and winners of the prizes offered by New Braunfels merchants for the first baby, are Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ybarra. The couple have another daughter, two-year-old Christina. Tiny white lights glistened on bare branches of frosted trees at the Civic Center on Dec. 28, to set the stage for the Gay Forties Winter Wonderland dinner/dance. Matching branches forming miniature trees on the white-covered tables were placed in a base of greenery with perched white birds. The stage was outlined with cedar, white birds and tiny lights. Garlanded with silver tinsel, the buffet table was skirted in white net and was appointed in silver and glass. Two tall white tapers in milk glass holders encircled with silver leaves and berries flanked a large silver chafing dish from which Hopping John was served “to bring good luck in the New Year”. The dessert table’s centerpiece was a white wrought iron bowl displaying white and silver ornamental balls. Mandy Burrus, feature editor for the Horn & Hoof student newspaper at New Braunfels H.S., has been singled out by the University Interscholastic League for “superior journalistic talent” in connection with a Nov. 15, 1974 story about the electoral college.
