near the top of many pleY list of things to discuss during a public hearing set for Feb 16 Transportation will be one of many topics on the agenda at the meeting which was scheduled to allow further public comment on the citys comprehensive plan This comprehensive plan is going to give us the impetus to get things city plan ning director Harry Bennett said Written by a private con sulting firm and based on about 18 months of work the plan was expected to be approved by New Braunfels City Council around April or May The consultant recently completed a draft of the docu ment after an extensive effort that included input from about 300 city residents who served on nine advisory subcommit tees Some subcommittees were said to be lending additional SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS The Advisory Subcommittee on Transportation made these recommendations regarding New Perhaps the biggest transportation project proposed in the city of New Braunfels compre hensive plan is the construction of an outer loop signified by the dotted line input to the draft plan this said transportation sub work out of this document for week The finetuning of the doc ument reportedly would con tinue for years to come even after the adoption of the plan as official city policy I think its a very good first committee member Bobbie Hasert However he said he hoped city leaders would update the plan about once every five years I hope were not going to the next 20 he Hasert was an engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation from I960 to 1993 and he said the experi ence he gained in the course of See traffic generators such as the downtown area Gruene Schlitterbahn Landa Park the airport shopping centers and major employment facilities Implement needed roadway improvements for better access between the McKenna Hospital Medical Center and Loop 337 including River Road Lakeview Torrey Street and Austin Street The city should conduct a traffic engineering study to investigate the feasibility of constructing a connection from California Street to Fredericksburg Road crossing Panther Canyon northwest of the Comal Springs The city should extend County Line Road from Pahmeyer Road southwestward to the proposed realignment of FM1044 and beyond as deemed prudent and necessary The city should reconstruct the East San Antonio Street bridge over the Comal River to remove the current load restriction and widen to four 4 lanes The city should take steps to regulate or pro hibit onstreet parking on West San Antonio Street from Clemens Street to Loop 337 on Union Street from Torrey Street to Garden Street and on Torrey Street from Elizabeth Street to Gruene Street The city should take the initiative working with downtown businesses to develop a coordinated system of offstreet parking dose to Seguin Avenue San Antonio Street which should be free of charge and open to the public The city should perform a traffic engineering study to analyze connection of Kerllck
