ttw More than fblkdancers feathered in Erftirt Germany earlier this month for the 14th Meeting of the Federal Folk Dance Society of Germany Robert and Beula Dicus representing the New Braunfels German Folkdancers participated in the event They were accompanied by approximately 32dancers representing seven states all nembers of the North American of German Folk Dance Groups This was the first time that American dancers have been invited to participate in a The local dancers presented exhibitions of both American and German folk dances during the weeklong event The Americans warmly received in Erfurt the lital city of Thuringia formerly irt of East Germany Exhibitions were presented by dancers from various regions of Germany as well as numerous other countries including Russia White Russia the Republic the Netherlands lark Estonia Hungary Poland and Lithuania Dancing exhibitions were presented throughout the downtown section of the old city k Evening events were conducted at Thuringen Halle where the dance floor was as large as a football field Nearly people all in colorfiil ethnic costumes participated in the Polonaise which opened the Grand Ball on Saturday evening Three orchestras took turns playing German folk dances for the ball Most of the dances were familiar to the New Braunfelsers and other Americans Many of the squares and circles were made up of several ethnic groups There were no language or political barriers to overcome on the dance floor New Braunfels German Dancers and musicians filled the streets of Erfurt with colorful exhibitions during the Federal Folk Dance Festival Exhibitions were presented by dancers from various regions of Germany as well as numerous other countries including Russia White Russia the Czech Republic the Netherlands Denmark Estonia Hungary Poland and Lithuania Folkdancers are accepting new members at this time Practice sessions are conducted most Thursday evenings Preparations are under way for Wurstfest and all of us as Hot Shots Its a family affair that started in the early 1960s and has continued to be a big success The campgrounds which are spacious and right on the lake front are lit up with party
