honor Ronnie Wunderlich agricultural education instructor and Future Farmers of America ad visor at New Braunfels High School will receive the National FFA Organizations Honorary American FFA Degree Wunderlich was nominated for the degree by the National FFA board of directors at its recent meeting The degree is the highest honorary degree presented by the FFA It recognizes those who are helping advance agricultural education and the FFA and who have ren dered outstanding service This year 56 teachers of agricultural education were nominated to receive the degree during the 70th National FFA Convention in Kansas City MO Nov 1315 During Wunderlichs 25 years at new Braunfels High School four students have earned the FFA degree 65 students received the state FFA degree and five students earned state proficiency awards Also 13 gold seven silver and 10 bronze emplems were awarded for accom plishments in state career development event Each year at least 50 of the nations agricul tural education teachers receive the Honorary American FFA degree Outstanding Quar termaster Machel Faulkner John Phillip Sousa Award Jaime AlvarezCalderon Outstanding Polka Band David Gettys Louis Armstrong Award Dillon Buhl AllState Bassoon ist Loren Woods Kingsbury named to state board New Braunfels High School Ath letic Director Tim Kingsbury was re cently named to the board of directors of the Texas High School Coaches Association He serves a fiveyear term on the board which represents and serves the state organization wisely knew he would keep them in the same good i shape that he keeps the NBISD ath letic programs Chances to Meet the Teacher scheduled The supplies are put away the first week of school is almost over and now that the students have met their teachers it is time for their parents to meet them as wel 1 Meet the Teacher nights are an opportunity for parents to familiarize themselves with their childs school and its staff It is also a great time to ask questions at the door Serving begins at 6 Monday Sept 15 Lamar Primary prekindergartners and kindergart ners and their parents begin the first of many Meet the Teacher nights at Monday Sept 15 New Braunfels High School students and their par ents are invited to an open house at 7 In the heat and early hours of morning band practice last Mays band banquet may just be a dim memory for Unicorn musicians However their accomplishments have not faded Rather many of these faces are the leaders of this years marching band The 199697 band was under the direction of Beth Bronk Clay Zientek Becky Puckett and Melissa Townsend This year the band will be led by Bronk Puckett Randy Leifeste and Townsend This years band has almost 325 members Zientek is directing the Unicorn Band members of the future as the head director at New Braunfels Middle School After school care offered through NBISD YMCA Many working parents have to trust that their childrens after school time is safe and productive This year New Braunfels ISO and the Comal County YMCA are offering a trustworthy alternative to latch keys Parents will find afterschool programs at NBISDs primary and elementary schools Lamar Primary Lone Star Primary Memorial Primary Carl Schurz Elementary Memorial El ementary and Seele Elementary The program begins when school is dis missed and continues through 6 The fee is per week Limited fi nancial assistance is available Parents may register their children in the program throughout the school year For an additional cost a fullday camp is offered on week days when school is not in session The YMCA Campus Community Program incorpo rates five support services for young children and their families in the educational system and community The components development appropriate academic physi cal social and emotional skills in youth According to the YMCA the after school program includes an academic assistance center for children and a nutrition center where children can get nutritious afterschool snacks and lessons on proper nutrition Present too is a social development center where social com petencies such as communication skills and conflict resolution are taught a youth health and wellness center to promote physical fitness and an en richment center that includes handson activities involving science music drama arts and crafts The program is licensed by the Texas Depart
