County Commissioners approve the budget request from the county parks department negotiations will begin to buy the land to construct a new park in the Solms area the parks advisory chair said County Engineer and chairman of the Parks Advisory Committee Tom Hornseth asked the court on Tuesday to earmark for a park near Solms He said he had spoken to a Realtor concerning acres of land bordered by the MissouriKansasTexas railroad tracks Rusch Lane FarmtoMarket 482 and Kiueger Canyon He said once the money has been designated talks with the owner could begin Theres no action at all at this he said There have been no Hornseth said the proposed site would be large enough to accommodate a soccer field a baseball field basketball courts and a possible track around the perimeter He said it would be strategically located in a spot that would be beneficial to residents in that area This would be a nice neighborhood park that would be within walking or biking distance for all the neighborhood kids to go he said Commissioner Cristina Zamora said she was glad the purchase of park land was included in the budget request because her constituents had waited a long time for a park She said the proposed site was ideal and was a reasonable price considering the asking price went from to Im very much said Zamora Ive been working on it since 1993 and Im pleased its moving In presenting the budget for the road department Hornseth asked for funds for several large projects including two along the Guadalupe River Hornseth asked the county to set aside for a pedestrian crossing and guard rails at the First Crossing Bridge He said the project was a joint effort between the county the Water Oriented Recreation District and the Texas Department of Transportation He said the county had already said it would pay for up to on the project Hornseth said the project was currently in the design phase and he said he expected work to begin on the bridge in 1998 TxDOT is supposed to be working on the designs and when they have the plans ready well put it out for he said Work is also being proposed for other crossings on River Road Hornseth asked that the in this years budget be put in the 1998 budget He said the project called for putting guard rails on the bridges but he has delayed it until the plifAs from the First Crossing Bridge are complete He said those plans would include similar elements to plans for the other crossings He said projects might even be bid together I would just like to be consistent in the design of all the bridges so Im waiting to get the plans from said Hornseth County commissioners will continue to hear budget requests this week with the last workshop on Thursday The final budget will be approved at the end of August and a tax rate will be set in early September On Wednesday the court heard budget requests for contract services including Mental Health and Mental Retardation MHMR asked the court for in funding up from year The increase is because of vpairs to its grounds and facrs the agency is asking the court to help fund County Judge Carter Casteel said that like all budget requests the court would have to take a good look at the MHMR request iosts youth rodeo state finals SEGUIN Seguin will be the host city for the Texas Youth Rodeo Association State Finals July 29 August 2 1997 Youth from across the State AUSTIN AP The state is within its rights to cancel Medicaid contracts with nursing homes if the facilities are cited three times in two years for serious problems an appeals court has ruled The Texas Health Care Association which represents nursing homes filed the lawsuit challenging the Texas Department of Human Services threestrike Under the rule the agency may terminate a nursing homes contract
