Awards Assembly May 30 Bllgh 17 is a threeyear cadet at the Academy The Marine Military Academy is the only private boys school in the world based on the customs and traditions of the United States Marine Corps This year It enrolled 566 young men In grades eight through 12 from 34 states and 10 foreign countries Graham perfects military skills Private First Class Josh L Graham 18 of New Braunfels shows visitor Robert Grady how to load ammunition Into the feed tray of a 50 caliber machine gun More than 250 civilians took a tour of tanks helicopters and other military equipment during a visit for civic leaders and employers of the National Guards citizen soldiers Graham an artilleryman with Battery A 4th Battalion 133rd Field Artillery is among nearly members perfecting their military skills during summer training Military Notes Navy Seaman Recruit Leslie Leslie A Boones Jr of Eiclien Road New Braunfels Texas recently participated in the Navys Fleet Week 97 in New York City abroad the destroyer USS Deyo homeported in Norfolk Va Adams ship played a significant role in attending the Navys annual shipboard Fleet Week historically and traditionally recognizes our Sailors and Marines as truly dedicated service members of the armed forces Adams positive devotion to duty and his ship marks a significant cornerstone in naval traditions During Fleet Week the servicemembers participated in community relations projects local parades sporting events and were even featured tyjhe local media Festivities included parties balls receptions professional sporting events and enjoying what New York City has to offer He joined the Navy in September 1996 Adrian Gonzales is this years appointment to the United States Air Force Academy He recently graduated from New Braunfels High School in the class of 1997 Academically he finished 12th out of a class of 350 students and was the highest ranking minority of his class with a grade point average of Adrian will depart for the Air Force Academy campus in Colorado Springs Colorado On arrival he will go through nine weeks of boot camp training with his four years he will plan to major in business management and University They are Matthew J Behrend a sophomore business administration major Nicholas H Buske a junior biology major Angel C Duncan a freshman communication arts major Kristy G Kaufmann a freshman Lindsay R McNeill a sophomore communication arts major Jeffrey V Rambo a sophomore physics major Lauren N Schlameus a junior kinesiology major Terri R Tuch a junior biology major Brinda Valdez a May 10 graduate with a bachelor of arts degree in multidisciplinary studies Albert Villarreal a senior biology major Vaiera Kay Bondesen Walters a sophomore English major Rose M Zamora a senior English studies major and Daniel W Zunker a senior business administration major at Texas Lutheran University Stacie L Champlin of Bulverde also was named to the Deans List To be named to the Deans List students must have at least a cumulative grade point average with a minimum of 12 graded hours in the past semester The University of Kansas history department recently announced the names of 32 students initiated into Phi Alpha Theta international history honor society Among them was Amy M Cook of New Braunfels daughter of Ted and Kathy Cook Cook is a senior in the school of education Phi Alpha Theta recognizes and encourages excellence in the study of history Membership open to all students is based on overall grade point average and the number of hours of history course work taken Eddie Temple Frank Witting and Doug Miller have announced that Eddie Temple has been named general manager of the Witting Miller Insurance Agency Witting Miller Inc has offices in New Braunfels Seguin and Universal City An office in San Marcos is planned to open by 1998 Temple has lived in New Braunfels for 25 years and is active in the Wurstfest Association and the Downtown Rotary Club He is a graduate of Stephen F Austin State University earning a bachelor of business administration with a major in finance Temple and his wife Cynthia have two children Whitnee and Jordan I am looking twoyear presumptive period The new rule broadens VAs ability to give disabled Gulf War veterans the benefit of the doubt for a more realistic period of time as scientific research moves closer to
