Food Bank Board of Directors was held at 10 at 248 Merriweather Directors present were Gladys Bartling of First Protestant Olga Huber of Cross Lutheran Howard Beutler of Peace Lutheran Melba Wetz Betty Drawe and Rev Ken Peters of New Braunfels Presbyterian Elmo Fischer of Faith UCC Inez Fortson of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Janie Smith of Eastside Baptist Bonnie Collins of St Paul Lutheran Bud and Mariam Norwood of Oakwood Baptist The present officers reelected by acclamation for the 199798 fiscal year beginning June 1 1997 are President Gladys Bartling Vice president Bill Dolittle Treasurer HarmonBaird and Secretary Betty Drawe June 1 1998 will be the 10th anniversary of Inc Food Bank The years records show a steady growth and community awareness Many of the original volunteers continue to work Their work has been made easier because the amount of donations have incrased significantly over the years It is very gratifying to be able to give each needy family 30 to 35 pounds of food a month The statistical report revealed 189 families 441 individuals received pounds of food in May Donations of food logged in at pounds with additional pounds of bread sweets and purchased staples The years total June 1996 to May for food purchased was Monetary donations totaled Inc appreciates the following donations in May New Braunfels Lioness New Braunfels Newcomers Club United Association conference to be held Sept 9 to 11 in Wichita Falls Plans are under way for the annual Friendship Day to take place oct 31 at the County Extension meeting room Canyon Lake Eastern Star Canyon Lake Eastern Star Chapter No 1103 is now among those organizations at Canyon Lake to award scholarships to deserving graduating high school seniors Amanda Jean Jones a Smithson Valley High School senior living at Canyon Lake was selected by a committee of six members to receive Canyon Lake Eastern Star Chapters first scholarship Several months ago a special committee was appointed by worthy Matron Bertie Loveall with Iris Curtin serving as chairwoman to determine whether to start an endowned fund or a scholarship fund The committee decided on a scholarship fund which was approved by the membership Due to the generosity of the several members a scholarship was made possible this year A fund is being established to award a scholarship each year Curtin presented the scholarship
