filed Tuesday for reelection to her current seat on th New Braunfels Independent School District Board of Trustees Spain was the second individual to file for one of the four seats on the ballot for the Aug 9 election Spain who is in her third year on the board filed for one of the two atIarge seats which cover the entire school district Computer technician Henry Garza filed for the District I seat Monday Spain who has lived in New Braunfels for seven years is married to San Antonio attorney Michael Spain They have one child Amanda Gate Spain who graduates this week Spain 49 has devoted time to a range of activities She is a current volunteer with the citys steering committee for the Master Plan the YMCA committee and the Chambers Youth Leadership New Braunfels She is a lifetime member of the PTA and a volunteer and board member for Santa Rosa Childrens Hospital She also has participated in the Texas Association of School Board Leadership program Project Graduation and the American Cancer Society gala This was her seventh year as a HOSTS volunteer tutoring at three schools and volunteering at a fourth If elected Spain said her goal would be to keep the focus on what is best for children She said every activity she has been involved with is committed to children and despite previous claims by district patrons that the current board has lost that SAC offers Bette Spain focus she said it had always been important to her Thats why I ran in the first place and thats why Im running Spain said Individually you can keep that as your goal Individually thats where I want to keep my Spain said she is anxious to work with the new superintendent and stands ready to serve her constituents with a willing She said she also has strived to listen to both sides on every Spain a former teacher and educational diagnostician said she intended to keep the campaign for a seat on the board very positive to avoid any division in the community I want them to look and see what Ive Spain said I want to run on my record because I work real Also up for election are an atlarge seat the District 1 seat and the remaining year on the District 4 seat Leo Chafin holds the other atlarge seat and said last week that he had not decided whether he would seek another term District 1 is currently represented by Sylvia Sanchez Sanchez was unavailable for comment regarding whether she would seek reelection District 4 became vacant in April when Jaime Padilla resigned with a year remaining on his term NBISD trustee elections will be Aug 9 and filing for a seat on the ballot ends
