The new building expected to be completed by December, will house IO family practice physicians in a modern, state-of-the-art medical facility and will include 22 examination rooms, a laboratory and x-ray unit, said Dr. William Reeves, president of the association. Hill County Medical Associates was established in April 1995 when doctors Gary Bird, Ron Cohle, Randy Jacks, Dottie Overman, Warren Albrecht and Bill Reeves foresaw the need for a professional medical association that could meet the challenges of today’s managed care environment while continuing to provide quality care. “Many of our physicians have been in New Braunfels for 20 or more years,” Reeves said. “We realized that becoming a group was the right thing to do both for our patients and our medical practices.” Hill Country Medical Associates has two additional physicians joining in August and October to bring the group’s total number of providers to IO. The number includes Sylvia Castro-Brauser, a physician’s assistant. The group is considering the addition of a nurse practitioner. Hill Country Medical Associates recently opened New Braunfels’ first medical clinic to dedicate itself to the needs of the New Braunfels business community. Doing business as Occupational Health of New Braunfels, the new location at 532 N. Union treats worker injury and performs drug screens and other tests needed by local companies in today’s regulatory environment. “Partly because of its affiliation with the McKenna Rehabilitation Network, Occupational Health of New Braunfels is able to offer the full continuum of care for employees of local companies in Comal and surrounding counties," said Dr. James Gardner, medical director. This group is receiving a great deal of support from the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault which operates from its state office in Austin. The Comal County Sexual Assault Task Force will continue to meet monthly to develop positive working relationships, study the laws which govern sexual assault crimes, to create a network of resources and referrals, and to keep up-to-date on current findings and events related to the field of sexual assault victims and sexual assault crimes. Members of the task force include representatives from the Comal County District Attorney’s Office, Comal Independent School District, Comal County Sheriffs Office, Comal County Women’s Center, Communities in Schools, EMS, McKenna Memorial Hospital, New Braunfels Independent School District and the New Braunfels Police Department.
