quiet place to she said Some days it was real fun and the other days I would hurt for heri Despite Hodges death in 1978 Miller who has six children of her own became a second mother to Hodges three teenage children It was like something was taken away from you and youre not going to have it she said To me it made me feel better to know that shes out of her suffering and knowing wed meet somewhere again Ive always believed that We always told each othfer if anything happened to us the other one would take care of the Yvette Millers 28yearold daughter said her mother quickly counted the new children as her own It was real nice becWse we got a brother and two sisters added to the said Yvette who gave her mother roses for Mothers Day We were all treated equally If she gave one person something wed all get it Shes loyal and dependable Shes there when you need Millers adopted children live in Houston and Corpus Christi and could not be reached for comment but many of her biological children and grandchildren live in San Antonio and the Marion area Her oldest son Aaron 35 who is a supervisor for CBS Steel Company in San Antonio said be learned about true friendship from his mothers acceptance of Hodges children I think the world of my said Aaron who was 13 when Hodge died The things shes done for me she deserves a lot more than what shes getting The love between both of them gave me the respect I have to have friends Miller said she was going to attend a motherdaughter banquet Saturday with one of her daughters that lives in San Antonio but for Mothers Day celebrations she planned to rest Twelveyearold Walter Miller her youngest son said he had other plans for her He said he wanted to take her out to eat and give her a secret present he made at school He also said he wanted to ease some of her normal duties I think shes said Walter whose favorite meal of his mothers are enchiladas I may wash the dishes was a natural step thlree necldacentiat say Mother and My all given by her children Her mother died when she was 9 leaving her grandmother to raise her Most of the time Miller helped her grandmother raise her sister and two brothers and various other relatives She also had to be strong for her husband Garlon 56 who has had a long battle with asthma and is retired from custodial work at Randolph Air Force Base Since weve been together shes been there when Ive needed he said had some rough times As sick as Ive been she always has been dependable She never wants to give up Weve been like two beans in the A longtime friend of the family Clarence McDade 51 ate a sandwich at Mitlers house Saturday and reminisced about her contributions This lady is an exceptional he said The way she has maintained and kept this family together through the years she accepts the responsibility to make sure things get done and done right When mom says Thats thats These days Miller said she spends most of her time doing grandmother duty the often tiresome but lovable job of taking care of numerous grandchildren so that the parents can take a break A normal Saturday has Miller shuttling some of her 10 biological grandchildren and 12 adopted grandchildren between Schertz Marion and Universal City for various Little League games and school activities I would do it for anybody as long as theyre going to mind me and go along with my rules in
