New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - May 9, 1997, New Braunfels, Texas Herald-Zeitung g Friday, May 9, 1997 Q 7ATake time to honor mothers of all ages We gather this weekend to honor mothers of all ages. Honoring our Mother Mary and our own mothers and wives predates our American tradition. This tradition goes back to the 17th century in England, and back to our Jewish traditions. Mothers were instrumental in the preparation of all food, candles and tables on the eve of Sabbath. The importance of her preparation role and blessings have carried on to our present day. Our present day Mothers and wives have a good example in our Mother Mary. She is held up as an example to the faithful for the way in which she accepted the gift of life and she fully and respoonsibly accepted the will of God (Luke 1:38). She heard the word of God and acted on it, because charity and a spirit of service were the driving force of her actions. She is worthy of imitation because she was the first and most perfect of Christ’s disciples. All of this has a permanent and universal exemplary value. Whether our mothers and wives are with us or deceased, the honor we give them is the greatest prayer we can offer them. We remember all of the food and nurturing she provided us. We thank her for her love and Mike reinemann \ carrying us in her womb. We are a good example of her spirit and for what she has taught us. Our mothers taught and reminded us the most important values and morals of our life. We are a most important example of this love and understanding. The best honor we give our mothers is to be a mirror of their good example. We can express our thanks for the gifts of faith, morals and values that have been given us. Our respect, gratitude and mutual affection is an honor we can give our mothers. We give her material and moral support in times of illness, loneliness or distress. To anticipate her wishes, to seek her advice and to acept her admonition is of great importance. We should always thank our   .......4    -- mothers for having taught us self respect, morality and empathy in accordance with the human and theological virtues. Our mothers have helped us develop firm attitudes, stable dispositions, perfecting our wills and intellects, ordering our passions and guiding our conduct. Prudence, justice, temperance and fortitude are included in this. The theological virtues of faith, hope in our Lord and charity are the basic roots of our belief in God. These virtues help us to live in a relationship with the Holy Trinity. In our present day, mothers’ roles have expanded to that of bread winner, disciplinarian, teacher, nutritionist and the giver of sympathy, compassion, love and attention. We can’t forget to include all of the sports activities and school activities that are so important. As the roles of mothers expand, let us remember all mothers this Sunday with this blessing. God of Love, listen to this prayer. God of Holy People, of Sarah, Ruth and Rebekah; God of holy Elizabeth, mother of John, of Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus, bend down Your ear to this request and bless the mother of our family. Bless her with strength of Your spirit, she who has taught her child/children how to stand and how to walk. Bless her with the melody of Your love, she who has shared how to speak, how to sing and how to pray to You. Bless her with a place at Your eternal dinner table, she who has fed and nurtured the live that was formed within her while still helpless but embraced in her love.    .j Bless her today, now in this lifetime, with good things, with health. Bless her with joy, love, laughter and pride in her child/children and surround her with many good friends. May she who carried life in her womb be carried one day to Your divine embrace: there, for all eternity, to rejoice with her family and friends. This blessing and all graces, we pray, descend upon the mother of our family: in the name of the Father, and the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. (Mike Peinemann is a deacon candidate at Sts.
