New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung (Newspaper) - March 28, 1997, New Braunfels, Texas flAg HeraldZeltung Q Friday March Church Life To talk with Managing Editor Micah Boyd about Church Life call 6259144 ext 220 Church Life His legacy is a fellowship of sharing We first met Anita a decade or so ago when she was just divorced and raising two young girls on her own She became part of our family and her girls a favored part of our life Years later Charlie came on the scene and before very long they moved out of state where Charlie practiced his dental profession Charlie and Anita arc special friends Its the best kind of long distance relationship Anita has family in the Hill Country that allows them to travel here once or twice a year and they have the Rocky Mountains right outside their back door which means prime skiing with great friends for us This past week Jan and I flew up for a few days of great skiing and even better fellowship Talk about picking up where you left off Ft is always that way with these soul mates of ours Charlie is one of the best friends I have Twenty years my senior his passion for living makes up for every year and then some We are completely different in background gifting personality and style of living but on the same page when it comes to friendship Fie would do anything for rnc and I for him Coming home on the plane it struck me just how unique our friendship really is How could it Dennis Gallaher survive these miles of separation and still remain so close How could people from such different worlds bond as family There is onty one answer One answer to it all Long before any of us met a dramatic beginning took place that sealed our lives forever History began a methodical march that would cause our lives to meticulously intersect with purpose and intent This was no chance meeting The event was the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ honored and remembered this weekend Because of His sacrifice history was set in motion to bring us all the benefits that life affords Underlying it all is fellowship the deep bonding that we share as believers in Jesus Christ John the aged apostle wrote from Teamwork essential in Bible translation When Jim Walton and his wife Janice heard Gods call to minister to the Muinanc Indians in Colombia they thought they were going to a Godforsaken land Once a tribe of several thousand the Muinanes were nearly wiped out by the white man during the South American rubber boom To make matters worse when they arrived in Colombia they learned that the heart language of the Muinane people was a tonal language and Walton was tonedeaf But as time passed Jim and Jan discovered that God had been working among the tiny tribe preparing their hearts to warmly receive the the Waltons and His word With Waltons training in speech and language and Jans 7 ability to distinguish the distinct tones of the Muinanc language they were able to work together to accomplish the work of Bible translation On a few occassi ons Walton admits discouragement overwhelmed him One time Jan was close to death During those low points he longed to be back home where medical assistance was close at hand But God quietly assured him of His presence and his family got well Finally looking into the face of Jim Walton the Muinane people Walton was reminded that if they left there was no one else to carry on the work In 1982 the New Testament was published As Walton passed out the precious books one by one tear fillcd eyes seemed to echo the words of one young Muinanc man Thank you for coming and bring us
