age of 73 years He was liborn March 17 1923 in Mador to Dorus and Pxlith Snclllngs He survived by his wife Janice Snelllngs of San Marcos his daughter Krlstl Curtis Klslk of Austin bin brother Clifton Snelllnp of Dalian two sisters Rulbellc Doane of Beaumont and Mary Alice Peoples Maflifleld Texas He also survived by two grandchildren Christopher and Jonathan Elslk of Austin and a Dorothy Nell Snellinp of Humble Texas Funeral services will be 3 Thursday March 20 1997 at the Thomason Funeral Home 2001 Ranch Road San Marcos Interment will follow at San Marcos City Cemetery The Rev Ron Hicks Mason County Texas on Aug 13 1898 to Christian and Sophie nee Lelfeste She began her leaching career in Paige Texas and then In Marlon Texas where she taught high school history and ftogllsb She taught one year 1926 in a fillesplc County school By this time she was convinced she needed more education and entered Southwest Texas Teachers College San Marcos In 1927 and graduated with her bachelor of arts In 1930 Meanwhile she was a student assistant and teacher at the school Bertha taught during the year of 1931 there and then moved on to Columbia University New York In 1932 she obtained her master of arts degree from the Teachers College Columbia She obtained a position at Clarion State Teachers College In northwestern Pennsylvania in 1932 She was named director of the process for children Many summers she taught classes at the University of Eastern Michigan Vpsilantl or at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor or the University of Illinois Chicago branch In 1966 having been Irt the field of education for 51 years Hcrtbn retired first living in Chicago where she had many friends and than moving back to Texas Mere she retained her connection with the Delta Kappa fiamrna and Southwest Texas State University where she named an Outstanding Alumnus She WAS preceded in deith by her brother Irving sister Faye Krueger end friend and companion Dr Helen Barton
