New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - February 18, 1997, New Braunfels, Texas •County amends request to merge attorneys offices By DENISE DZIUK Staff Writer Comal County Commissioners Court on Monday revised the resolution asking the state legislature to consolidate the county and district attorneys offices after the legislative affairs committee said a clause in the resolution was unconstitutional. County Judge Carter Casteel said the original resolution included a clause that said the county could review the consolidation in four years. She said the legislative affairs committee reviewed the resolution, and said the clause needed to be changed. “They said the way it was worded was unconstitutional," said Casteel. “We needed to change it." Casteel said the court would have to vote to change it back to separate offices. She said the same process would have to be followed, and-the legislature would have to consider the resolution asking for two offices. She said the court understood that, and did not mean to imply it would not follow this process. “We didn't mean that, so we clarified it,” said Casteel. “We changed the wording to reflect the process.” Casteel said the change in wording in that clause was the only change. She also said that although it is uncertain when the issue will be brought before the legislature, this should not cause any delay. In other business, the court approved purchasing a 1.474 acre tract of land adjacent to the road department to provide an entrance to the rural recycling area. The county will pay $7,370 for the land. Members of commissioners court will attend a continuing education conference for county judges and commissioners later this week, so the regular meeting will not be held Thursday.
