The Association of Vineyard Churches is a growing national and international movement of evangelical churches. While each congregation is unique, all share the common core values of worship, the Bible, relationships, training the congregation for ministry, and sending ministry teams to perform a variety of services. If you are new to Comal County and familiar with the Vineyard or you are« currently without a church home but ready for a fresh start, please call Scent and Susan Tjemagel, 625-6085. (Submitted by The Association of Vineyard Churches) Youths suspected of pointing moist slogans apologias CONCORD, N C. (AP) — Two of three youths charged with painting racist messages on the outside of a black church appeared inside the house of worship to ask the congregation’s forgiveness. Michael McHone, 18, and Richard Thompson, 17, visited the recent service at Piney Grove AME Zion Church with Thompson’s mother to apologize. “I would just like to say to each and every one of you that I’m sorry for what I’ve done to your church,” Thompson said. “I hope you can forgive me." ’it wasn’t right what we did,” said McHone. “Like I’ve told people, it was stupidity. I feel so bad for what I’ve done to all of you nice people who have had me here today.” They received embraces and warm greetings from five church members and their pastor, Johnny Douglas. The 95-year-old church, in a rural community just outside Concord, once had 50 members but now counts just IO. Later, more than IOO people — pastors and members of other AME Zion churches — crowded into the sanctuary to offer support and help raise money. The two and 17-year-old Jeremy David Cradduck were charged with felony counts of injury to property carried out as a hate crime, said Lt. Erie Baggarly of the Cabarrus County Sheriffs Department. rwimon irvrn cmvvnviy temples seeks and to conducta LARCHMONT, N Y. (AP) — Two weekend institutions — churchgoing and soccer — have collided a bit too often for some people in this New York suburb. Five churches and synagogues have petitioned the Larchmont Junior Soccer League to avoid scheduling games between 9 a m. and noon on Saturdays and Sundays to avoid conflicts with religious services. “We believe that soccer is an important part of our children’s lives, as is faith, religion." said the Rev. Michael Nelms, associate pastor at" the Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church. “We realize it is not possible to totally block off those times. We’re respectfully asking that those times be respected so that children who arc involved in both can do both.” Kit Simconc of the United States Youth Soccer Association in Richardson, Texas, told Gannett Suburban Newspapers that “This is the first instance I’ve ever heard of this happening." Charlene D’Antonio of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association said she had heard of isolated complaints about scheduling and suggested most children could get to a Sunday service that did not conflic: with their game. Church to buM smaller BELMONT, Mass. (AP) -Leaders of the Mormon church have agreed to scale back their design for a temple after residents complained about its impact on the neighborhood and skyline. The recent decision came less than a month after the Church of Jesu > Christ of Latter-Day Saints won town approval to build the $30 million temple as envisioned. The plans for a building with si; spires, 76 to 139 feet high, had prompted opposition from some iii this middle-class suburb.
