Thwra 18 Garza pulls out Moseley named to head schools Candidate for interim superintendent skips interview over seating chart By DENISE DZIUK Staff Writer Regional doctor wins rescue award By DENISE DZIUK Staff Writer An emergency room physician who also serves as med ical director for the New Braunfels and Canyon Lake Emer gency Medical Association recently received statewide recognition for his services Dr John Flanagan who has served as the medical direc tor for 12 years for the New Braunfels EMS and 10 years for the Canyon Lake EMS was named in November as the Texas EMS Medical Director of the Year Hjs goal is to teach and not put you down for what you dont stated the letter of nomination submitted by EMS employees As the medical director Flanagan said he tried to offer guidance for the EMS He helps establish protocol explains new trends and procedures and holds a monthly review session highlighting procedures paramedics took and the impact it had on the patient We talk about the months and we educate Flanagan said The EMS needs to understand how good of a job they truly are Flanagan said the award was not a reflection of him so much as a reflec tion of the paramedics This is the EMS of the year You dont get this by Theyre the Flanagan said That reflects on the quality and care being Dr John Flanagan to in New Braunfels and Canyon Flanagan said the local EMS departments are well known for the quality of care they provide He said the paramedics were versed in various aspects of medical care and the attention the patient gets in the field makes all the difference You have to have confidence that these guys know what theyre doing They cant just be rookies off the Flanagan said Were the jack of all trades and the master of the first hour when action is Retired superintendent Thomas Moseley was named interim superin tendent for the New Braunfels Inde pendent School District on Tuesday night after the other candidate was a no show for his final interview The noshow candidate Gonzalo Garza said he would not work for NBISD if he could not sit at the board of Trustees table during board meet ings The Board of Trustees interviewed retired superintendents Moseley and Garza last week for the interim posi tion Moseley returned on Saturday for a second interview Garza was to be interviewed again on Tuesday but he did not attend the meeting Garza said he was told the terms of the contract last week and that he was the boards top candidate He said the terms of the contract were acceptable but he said he would not take the job unless he could sit at the same table with board members during meetings Outgoing Superintendent Charles Bradberry was told in September to aio longer sit with the board during its meetings The decision a 43 vote preceded several changes in the school districts administration including Bradberrys resignation and the requests from high school principal John Turman and assistant principal Chuck Engler to be to other positions in the system Garza said it was indicated to him that the majority of members would not change the seating plan Garza said he spoke with Bradberry about the second interview and said he would not attend if the board was sim ply going to try to change his mind about sitting at the boards table I would not accept that because I believe doing that would diminish the dignity and professionalism of the executive officer of the said Garza I was not about to betray all the other superintendents in Texas by accepting that Moseley who was approved unani mously for the position said the seat ing arrangement would have been a bigger issue for him if he were con sidering the position of superintendent However as interim superintendent he said his only concern was getting board members to work together As interim my job is to set the ship right and it doesnt matter where I said Moseley I just mainly want to give stability to the district so the employees can continue doing the good job theyve always Moseley will be given a sixmonth I was not about to betray all the other superintendents in Texas by accept ing that seating Gonzalo Garza As interim my job is to set the ship right and it doesnt matter where I Thomas Moseley contract to run from Jan I to June 30 Bradberry said the exact salary has not been determined yet However he said it likely would be about a day which is approxi mately Bradberrys daily salary Moseley said he had known Brad berry for some time and already had talked with him about the position He said that he might come in on his own time before the first of the year to get settled in and begin meeting with staff United Way tofs campaign By ABE LEVY Staff Writer they had met this 28 charitable agencies in Coma County The drive this
