days a week To ensure the district can move into the new intermediate schools on the scheduled dates the con struction contractor is now working seven days a week on each of the three schools according to Roy Linnartz Director of Maintenance Mountain Valley Intermediate School students are scheduled to move in on Dec 16 Arlon Seay IS on Jan 7 and Canyon IS on Jan 21 The contractor for the food service warehouse has completed his portion of the project and the facility has been signed over to the district For the and Operations Status of major construction short term the warehouse will be used to store furniture and equipment pur chased for the three new intermediate schools Construction at Spring Branch Middle School continues on sched ule Pouring the concrete foundation began the the art of quilting during the schools Harvest Fest LR Sarah Steveson Joshua Jacinto JeanClaude Rodriguez Marty Avila and Shelby Mclntire The schools Harvest Fest featured many community members as they shared their family traditions with students Rahe Primary School students learned firsthand about family tradi tions during the schools Harvest Fest celebration We wanted to show students what families in the past did to prepare for the winter Betty Valdez Rahe Primary kindergarten teacher said Community volunteers including parents brought to the school a wide range of traditional crafts all adding to the Harvest Fest bounty of success There were those making peanut butter food from pumpkins jams and jellies soap syrup from the prickly pear cactus wood carvers rug mak ers and quilters bee keepers canners and many Valdez said The young students learned a lot and more than just about past traditions of homesteaders according to Valdez Students can learn how we use the five senses as well as vocabulary and language she said They also learned math skills in cluding fractions and units of food measurement like tablespoons and she added Volunteers included Cindy Parr Andela Cowart
