Braunfels Independent School District Abigail Santana earned her bachelors degree in Bilingual Education from Texas International University She also holds an associates degree in liberal arts from Los Angeles Valley College A beginning educator she teaches thirdgraders at riaMilementary School Greatest pleasure in teaching The greatest pleasure in teaching is seeing the eircitement of the students when they discover they have learned something new The only way to do this is for the teacher to show enthusiasm when Philosophy of education I believe teaching is developing and creating an environ ment geared towards inspiring the students to learn and to use their minds It is focusing on students needs and their abilities without Tilo Schmidt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with a minor in Geography from Southwest Texas State University A beginning educator he coaches and teaches science at New Braunfels Middle School Greatest pleasure in education I believe the greatest pleasure forme in teaching will be when my students are doing well in class and are excited about coming to class because we have an enjoyable and fun learning Philosophy of education Education today needs to prepare the children to reach their full potential so that they can lead a productive independent Abigail Santana Tilo Schmidt Their talents are music to the ears the above New Braunfels Middle School band students were named to the AllRegion Orchestra which performed on Nov 17 in San Antonio Kneel ing left to right are Joseph Judkins French horn Justin Mills percussion Francesca Garcia bass clarinet and Drew Sollberger percussion Behind them stand Carlo Schmidt tuba Alan Janzen percussion Chris tina Brandon clarinet Lindsay Leifeste French horn and Erica Schmidt bassoon Band Direc tor Anna Zientek is assisted by Dolores Jimenez and Janaia Lee assistant band directors and MelissaTownsend band as sistant Above are three New Braunfels High School musicians who earned chairs for the AllRegion Orchestra in San Antonio on Nov 17 They advance to the Area auditions in January Left to right senior Yvonne Vasquez earned thirdchair in French hom senior Eva Maldonado took firstchair piccolo and junior Loren Woods re ceived secondchair bassoon They are directed by Beth Bronk who is assisted by Clay Zientek Becky McGuire and Townsend In some instrumental sections up to 30 students competed for two positions In all 24 NBHS musicians auditioned for AllRegion School busv drivers to If id holiday food drive The New Braunfels Independent School District Trans portation Department plans to transport some holiday hope this year with a food drive From Monday Dec 16 through Friday Dec 20 Transportation Manager Bob Templeton school bus driv ers mechanics and other transportation department plqyees hope to collect cans of food They add their efforts to the drive begun by OakRun School sixth graders Will Chapman and Justin Powell The items will be given to the Comal County Food Bank with a portion going to the Childrens Shelter Drivers will place collection boxes on their buses during Dec 1620 Students will be welcome to make T i i food donations in the morning Collection boxes will also be available at each school to take donations from staff members and anyone else who would like to help with the drive Nonperishable food items such as canned vegetables canned fruits rice peanut butter canned meats crackers etc are among the items to be collected All items donated will be used Templeton said the collections will be emptied from the buses daily and the drivers will post the results to update students and the public on the collection progress Notes will be sent home with students on Dec 13 with information about the drive Educating everyone takes everyone i i Were Looking For A Few Good Local Heroes We all know someone who has done something to make their community a better place to live The New Braunfels HeraldZeitung would
