New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - November 22, 1996, New Braunfels, Texas Herald-Zeitung g Friday, November 22, 1996 □ 3A Ministry to collect clothing, food for homeless veterans in region Veterans for Christ, a ministry of Tree of Life Fellowship, is once again seeking donations to help make this Christmas a happier one for those less fortunate. The percentage of homeless veterans is staggering, as many veterans from the Vietnam era suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The VFC ministry provides services to veterans from all branches of the U.S. military. This is the fourth year for the annual Christmas Homeless Outreach. The program will provide clothing and food to homeless veterans and others in San Antonio on Dec. 29. The ministry is once again asking everyone to participate by donating items. The greatest demand is for blankets, adult coats and jackets, adult sweaters and adult gloves for both men and women. These donations will be stored and displayed at the home of Manuel Camarenountil Dec. IS. To arrange for a date and time to pick up the needed items, contact the Tree of Life Fellowship at 625-5375. Should there be donations unclaimed after Dec. 29, they will be donated to San Antonio area shelters. Comal County Commissioners Court The following actions were taken by the Comal County Commissioners Court on Thursday, Nov. 21: ■ Approved claims. ■Discussed    right-of-way dedication requirements as part of the platting process. ■Determined    platting requirements for 20,056 acres out of a 28.242 acre tract, being out of the G.W.T. & P.RR. Co. Survey No. 875 and the A.G. Startz Survey No. 876. McKenna Memorial Hospital is looking to lease the land for a rural health clinic. ■ Approved the vacate and replat of Lot 36, Stoney Creek II, Unit Three, establishing Lots 36A and 36B. ■ Made the final approval of Mo Betta Ranch, Unit I, accepted dedication of right-of-way and accepted cash deposit as road surety. ■ Received a brief report from the county engineer on two meetings he plans to attend. ■ Received a “How Goes It” report from the public health department. The commissioners were updated on various immunization clinics that have been held, and were told 3,200 doses of the flu vaccine have been administered since Oct. 7. ■ Received a report from the Environmental Enforcement Section, County Attorney’s Office. To date, 131 junk vehicle complaints and 245 solid waste/public health nuisance complaints have been logged. From Sept. I, 1995 to Nov. 15, 1996, approximately 1,300.5 tons of solid waste have been removed from various properties in the county. Of this, 1,099 tons were junked vehicles and 201.5 tons were other solid waste. ■ Received reports from elected officials and staff. The purchasing agent reported that the roof will be going up on the probation complex next week, and the building should be completed in late January. The county treasurer reported that the sales tax Figures are in. For this period, which covers September sales, the state is down 2 percent and the county is down 3.27 percent. Since January 1996, the county is up 11 percent. County Judge Carter Casteel reported the consolidation issue will be placed on the Dec. 5, 1996 agenda for further discussions. ■ Approved the renewal of a contract with Deltec for continuous power source. ■ Approved resolution #96-45 to adopt County Investment Policy and Strategies and the appointment of an Investment Officer. Man sought in aimed robbery of convenience store in city By ABE LEVY Staff Writer An armed robbery occurred at a Sac-N-Pac convenience store at 107 E. Common St. Tuesday night. New Braunfels police reported. Police said a black man, about 6 feet tall with a thin build,approached the store’s clerk at about 9 p.m. He told the clerk he was armed but did not display a weapon, police said. The clerk emptied the cash register and handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect, who fled on foot, police said. The robbery is a second degree felony.
