out of record win over Pack By JAIME ARON AP Sports Writer IRVING Texas way Dal las kicker Chris Boniol had it figured his right leg could be the difference between victory and defeat against the Green Bay Packers Not like this though rflexpected it to be said Boniol who instead of deciding a tight game kicked an NFL recordtying seven field goals as the Cowboys easily beat the Packers 216 Monday night Unlike a record for touchdowns or interceptions this kind of history comes with an unspoken asterisk He wouldnt have had the chance if the Dallas offense had been able to get into the end zone But Troy Aikman Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin the Cowboys money men and typical Packercrashers couldnt break through They could only get close So out came Boniol twice in the first quarter and three more times in the sec ond All five firsthalf possessions end ed in field goals from 45 45 and 35 yards After a dry third quarter Boniol hit from 39 and 28 yard in the fourth Theyre not chip shots but youre still supposed to make said Boniol whose strength was sapped last week because of a bout with the flu His halftime total also tied an NFL record for a half It also tied a team record for a game The final tally on seven tines tied Jim Bakken and Rich Karlis for the most field goals in an NFL game It also marked the first time in league history a team scored 21 points without a touch down Im proud of said Boniol who set several team records last season as an undrafted rookie from Southwestern Louisiana Im glad I got to do it You dont get to go for an NFL record very Boniols
