Outfielder Cheryl Dunn started the rally with a dou ble tha dropped into left field After Dunn was sacrificed to second by first basemiin Ranessa Reeh Best hit a grounder that bounced off the glove of shortsto Misty Roberts and into the out field bringing Dunn home for the tying run Unicorn Coach Cindy Manley said errors cost her team the game JWe played error free for the first five Manley said Then we started to commit the errors in the last innings We played good but ve didnt hit the ball The Unicorns had command of the game in what was a pitching duel between the Unicorns Joy Orr and Canyons Denise Harborth Orr shut out the Cougarettes through five innings and allowed only four hits during that span Harborth kept Canyon in the game by pitching out of trouble in the third and sixth innings The Unicorns got things going in the third inning when Roberts reached on an error Singles by Rebecca Espinosa and Wotipka loaded the bases After one out Jennifer Ybarra hit a deep sacrifice fly to righfield plating Roberts from third and giving the Unicorns a 10 lead Har borth then settled down and forced third baseman Rachel Green to groundout and end the inning Adams praised Harborth for keeping herself steady during the critical third inning She concentrated hard and got out of a basesloaded jam by allowing only one Adams said I thought that was a just a super job by New Braunfels added another run in the fifth on a single a sacrifice bunt and Rangers get past Lockhart From staff reports The Canyon Cougarettes used hitting and smart base running to pull out a S on rnoay at unicorn Softball Field a double Wotipka who went 34 dou bled to the fence in right center field over the reaching glove of outfielder Marci Allen Wotipkas double brought Roberts home from second and upped the Unicorns lead to 20 going into the top of the sixth It was during the sixth inning that the Cougarettes started their comeback Adams got on base courtesy of an error A wild pitch by Orr advanced Adams to second Allen then flew out to right fielder Melinda Aguirre who immedi ately threw to Green at third in an attempt to rundown Adams between second and third Adams then retreated to second Green threw to second baseman Rox anne Blue but Blue could not handle the throw and the ball went into the out field advancing Adams to third base Adams scored Canyons first run on another Orr wild pitch Harborth was the winner by allowing six hits and two runs one of them unearned Orr was tagged with the loss by giving up seven hits and three runs one of which was unearned The Lockhart Lady Lions had more hits and fewer errors but the Smithson Valley Rangers scored at the critical moment on Friday Catcher Sarah Chappellie belted a twoout single in the seventh inning that scored Jenny Huckle and lifted the Risers lo a thrilling 21 victory win put the Rangers record at 43 in district forcing a ror liird place with Lock V Ranger Dusii Duiiie tied the game with a RB single in the sixth inning The shot scored Bcitiany Con stable who had reached first on a walk and stole secon 1 Shelley Sauer went the entire seven innings and improved to 97 Lock harts Lisa Voigf struck out 12 batters but took the losi LockhJrt had six hits and no errors to Smithson Valleys three hits and one error Ranger assistant coach Paul Dionne said the Lady Lions held the edge in statistics but couldnt score We just happened to get our hits at the right Dionne said This was a huge win because it keeps us alive in the playoff The Rangers next face Bastrop on the road Tuesday at
