town and the surrounding area joined her for the special occasion Deanna L Mills Deanna L Mills of New Braun fels has been accepted and is enrolled in her first semester in the Southwest ern Oklahoma State University School of Pharmacy at Weatherford Mills is the daughter of Bennie D Mills of New Braunfels and Donna S Mills of Kouston A total of 40 students were accepted to the 1996 spring semester pharmacy schools class at Southwestern Chosen from 127 qualified applicants the class has an average cumulative grade point average of and is composed of 20 women and 20 men 3 An article written by Kyle Bar rington executive director of Teen Connection will be featured in the spring edition of the Journal of Expe riential Education in February The article discusses ideas for teach ers working with atrisk youth Bar rington said the article deals with teaching teachers alternative ways to work with alternative youth while keeping them in a classroom with oth er kids The research for the article was dons over the course of a twoyear study by Barrington as part of his dissertation it the University of Houston Barring7oi is currently working on obtaining a doctorate in early childhood educatioln from the university f Barrington said the idea discussed in the article includes teaming teachejs with counselors or social workers to make the classroom more conducive for atrisk youth I Maintaining an atrisk student in a regular classroom setting increases the chances that youth will graduate from high school and have fewir behavioral problems while in school Additionally it costs significantly more money to place that youth in an altdr native Barrington said Maggie S Brandt was among the 780 graduates of the 137th Annual Commencement of Illinois State Uili versity Normal
