Center on Monday Jan 8 1996 at the age of 79 She was bom in New Braunfels on March 25 1916 to Gre gory and Maria Fey Friesenhahn and married Percy Hansmann on Feb 18 1941 in New Braunfels Her husband preceded her in death on Nov 25 1995 Mrs Hansmann was a home maker a member of the Sts Peter Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary Survivors include her daughter Antoinette Jenschke and husband Nor bert of New Braunfels son Jerome J Hansmann and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio sisters Helen Friesenhahn of New Braunfels and Sister Schlasti ca Friesenhahn of San Antonio sisters inlaw Gertrude Friesenhahn of McQueeney and Evelyn Friesenhahn of New Braunfels 4 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren A rosary will be recited Tuesday Jan at 7 at the Doeppen schmidt Funeral Home A funeral ser vice will be held Wednesday Jan 10 1996 at 9 at Sts Peter Paul Catholic Church with interment fol lowing at St Josephs Cemetery at Comal Msgr Edward Bily will offi ciate the services Visitation will begin at 8 Tuesday and continue until 9 Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home Leon Vincent LaShomb Leon Vincent LaShomb age 67 died Friday Jan 5 1996 following a long illness He was born in West Chester son of Margaret Kelly and Hubert LaShomb At age 8 he moved to Northern New York and lived with his father and stepmother Elizabeth Bercume Leon joined the Army paratroopers at age 17 He served in the occupation of Japan and the Korean War as a combat infantry paratrooper Following the war he graduated from flight school and served in various helicopter units bqth in the states and in Germany Later he saw duty in the Vietnam War as a combat helicopter Retirement came in 1966 following 20 years of service Shortly after retirement he returned to the Southeast Asia war flying as a helicopter pilot for the CIAs Air America Leon spent 4 years in Laos Cambodia Vietnam and Thailand fighting a difficult and dangerous war Following the ceasefire in 1973 he resigned and returned to the Returning to Northern New York in 1973 Carole and Leon married and bought a farm They operated the farm for three years and then sold out Their search for a warm spot brought them to Texas in 1977 In the early 80s he worked in the drug eradication pro gram in Mexico Leon was a man of many skydiving photography woodwork ing gardening antique much of his rime in retirement was devoted to the organization and growth of two nonprofit clubs He served as an editor for the Air America Association and the Buick Compact Club In between he held just about all the various offices in these organizations Leon was a member of the New Braunfels Pres byterian Church Retired Officers Association Air America Association and the Buick Compact Club He is survived by his loving wife Carole of the home son Leon Vincent of Clarksville daughters Susan and grandson Shawn Williams of Clarksville and Elizabeth Ann Pearson of Portland two stepchildren Sandra Caudle and Richard LaShomb of Lawton sister Pauline Donohue and niece Danielle Donohue of New Braunfels and sister Theresa Slater of Wilm ington and one brother Ken neth of Panama City Fla A funeral service will be held Wednesday Jan 10 1996 at at the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church with the Rev Ken Peters offi ciating Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors He requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Perry guest speaker at luncheon Texas Agriculture Commissioner Rick Perry will be the guest speaker on Jan 22 at noon when the New Braun fels Republican Women conduct their annual meeting Lunch will be served at per person in Wesley Hall at the First United Methodist Church Commissioner Perry surprised polit ical watchers with an upset victory in 1990 In 1991 he was selected to serve on the Trade Advisory Committee on International Trade Perry began his political career in 1984 when he was elected to represent District 64 in the Texas House of Rep resentatives He won praise for his legislative work in 1989 and was named one of the 10 most effective lawmakers by the Dallas Morning News He served three terms before being elected to his current
