and Joyce Elbel right By ANN BURRUS and MARIE OFFERMAN Special to the HeraldZeitung Saengerhalle was the setting Tor f ne December Gay Forties party Christ mas in the held on December 10 1995 The evening was reminiscent of Christmas celebrations held by theear ly settlers of New Braunfels As the 221 members and guests arrived they were served a variety of cheeses sausage and dried meats and Texas caviar with crackers and chips accom panied by cranberrylemon punch The appetizer table was centered with a white angel with hurricane lamps in a fresh mixed greenery wreath on either side Fresh Douglas fir branches were interspersed among the appetizers A beautiful tiered arrangement of white poinsettia plants and Douglas fir branches centered the buffet table and more branches accented the food ser vice The traditional buffet dinner con sisted of turkey dressing gravy squash casserole country style green beans pickled beets cranberry salad and rolls The appetizer table was converted to the dessert table Assorted Christmas cookies on decorative tiered stands were served with coffee and punch Members and guests were seated at long tables covered with white cloths and decorated with fresh Douglas fir branches and green pottery hurricane lamps trimmed with gold ribbon The lamps which were made by the host esses were award ed as prizes Also decorating the table were miniature flowerpot angels also made by the committee and given to each attendee The fresh cedar Christ mas tree was decorated with white lights and white crocheted angels and snowflakes The stage held a forest of fresh cedar trees with a large wooden santa figure Two large cedar trees cov ered with white mini lights were on either side in front of the stage The group was entertained by the New Braunfels Mixed Choir Harmony New Braunfels Gemischte Chor Har monic with a medley of German Christmas songs The Gemischte Chor Harmonic is the last of the many Ger man singing societies that were active since the foundine of the community The director is Bill Kretzmeier and Heidi Reeh is the pianist Thirty eight members presented the program and then enjoyed cookies and coffee The group meets at the Saengerhalle every Wednesday evening Hostesses were cochairman Marie Offerman and Bette Spain and Linda Dietert Joyce Elbel Betty Grist Marie Jarisch Sara Rayfield Melba Roth Margy Waldrip Melba Wetz
