New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - December 20, 1995, New Braunfels, Texas Herald-Zeitung □ Wednesday, December 20,1995 □ 5 Congress, President an embarrassment Open letter to the President and Congress, I am one of the little people in this country who works hard, pays his bills on time, draws nothing free from the government and pays about 25 percent of every dollar I make in taxes. I have never written a letter to my President or Congress before, but I have never been so truly embarrassed and angry about how my President and my Congress are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats and not accepting their responsibilities of running my country honestly and efficiently!! You and Congress were elected to make decisions, compromise if necessary, but not to shut the country down!! I have noticed over the past years that my government is becoming more and more distant from me, less and less moral and being less and less responsible to us, who pay your salaries and provide all of those “perks” that we as John Q. Public do not enjoy but are required to pay for! It has not escaped our notice that our President and Congress have not and will not sacrifice anything during these “shut downs,” as usual we are the ones “left holding the bag,” while you continue to act like spoiled children calling names back and forth at our expense!! Get your collective heads out and run my country!!!! I know I will receive some computer generated form letter back from each of you thanking me for my concern and saying a lot of flowery words about how you appreciate me voicing my concern. It will be written on expensive stationery and mailed to me — save the postage — oops, I forgot you don’t have to spend 32 cents to sends your letters like I did to send these to you! A disgusted and frustrated citizen, Jim Beath New Braunfels Spring fed pool doesn’t need “Kiddie City” Dear Editor, I am writing in reference to the article in last Sunday’s paper about the To directly support the work of the I Salvation Army Service Unit of New Braunfels, gifts may be mailed tot Salvation Army 304 Cardinal Drive New Braunfels, Texas 78130 ptvsv gausry LUCKIES INStDf mattress & sleep store Zlttfettl) LETTERS renovation of the Landa Park pools. It was stated that the spring fed pool will be transformed into “Kiddie City,” complete with play features — like water slides, squirting animal play structures and water drops (like tire swings). Also a new wading pool will be built and the bath house will get a face lift. This will be funded in half by a $400,000 grant and the other half from user Tees saved over a period of years and all pool fees will be raised. (Does this mean that the whole project carries a $800,000 price tag?) It seems to me, that if a family is wanting this water park play area, that they could go to one of the glitzy amusement parks with all of the unnatural attractions that they could ever want. We have something really special in the natural beauty of our spring fed pool. I am really sorry that this artificial playground is being built. At what expense will we continue to exploit our city to draw the tourist dollar? Does this city even know that we have a first class swim team, with dedicated coaches and young people, who have to travel to San Marcos every day to work out in an indoor pool? I do believe that his money could be much better spent! Tanya Dunsmore New Braunfels Majestic doing just fine, thank you very much! Dear Editor, Welcome home, Majestic! Majestic Mal-danado was brought home the night after his fund-raiser. After surgery his complications were influenza and anemia. As of now, everything’s under control. Majesties doctors say he is a smart baby and they were impressed with his strength. The Maldando family wishes to Majestic Maldanado thank Landa Station, the Herald-Zeitung, all the Wal-Mart Distribution associates, and the kind people who supported with prayers and contributions. The fund-raiser was a success. God bless you all. The Maldanado fam Lighted cross stolen from resident’s yard Dear Editor, We had a lighted cross in our yard to symbolize the true meaning of Christmas. Someone stole it Sunday night while we were sleeping. Would you print this so that maybe they would return it? We live in Elmwood Street. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Jordan Jacks, age 8 Ben, age 5 Guadalupe River peaceful during holiday season Dear Editor, ‘Twas the week before Christmas on the Guadalupe River, not many creatures are stirring. There’s no shouting the “F” word, no drunks, and very little new trash. It would seem even the old trash that lines the banks is getting ready for Christmas. As it begins to sink into the ground to bed itself forever in the environment, the nature of the season covers the trash with colored leaves falling from the beautiful trees. Even the old aluminum stinko cans give the illusion of a shiny ornament either stuck in riverside debris or lining the banks of the river. For the time the homeowners are happily diverted to preparation for Christmas joys and celebrating the pleasure that at least this holiday is not distracted by the hordes of river rafters that make other holidays impossible. For the peaceful quiet, for the beauty of the river scene, and for the harmony of our neighborhood, we join our one river resident, the blue heron, to wish New Braunfels friends a Merry Christmas.
