Grand prizes are two free round-trip tickets to Germany, courtesy of Lufthansa Airlines and the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung; and two Christmas area rugs donated by Rhoads Interiors. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5, and may be purchased from any member of the Sophienburg Museum and Archives, or call 629-1572. Weihnachtsmarkt will be held Nov. 17, 18, and 19 at the Civic Center. Nursing scholarship Those currently enrolled or planning to attend a nursing program (LVN or RN) in the spring of 1996 are encouraged to apply for the Elliot Knox Nursing Scholarship or the Cecelia Spring-meyer Nursing Scholarship. For scholarship applications, call Gwenn Scott at 606-91 ll, ext. 195. Deadline is Nov. 15. Voice of America The Voice of Democracy program, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, offers scholarships to local teenagers. Contestants make an audio tape on a theme chosen each year. Share the Warmth NBU is starting its annual Share the Warmth project, helping residents donate warm winter clothes to others who need them. Take any jacket, sweater, or coat to any local cleaner. Coats will be cleaned and collected by NBU. Those rn need may pick up coats at Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church on Nov. 18 from I p.m. to 4 p.m. Advent Vespers practices Calling all singers to the 36th annual Advent Vespers practices: Tuesday, Nov. 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and Tuesday, Nov. 28 at First Baptist Church. Practices will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The performance will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. Volunteers needed The AARP Tax Aide volunteers program is looking for volunteers. The training program begins Jan. 12. 1996 and lasts five half days. Volunteers are required to pass an exam before they are authorized to be counselors. Counseling usually amounts to a minimum of four hours per week from Feb. to April 15. Senior citizens and others needing tax help are the principal recipients. To volunteer, call 625-6445 or 620-5412. Service League fund-raiser Tickets for the New Braunfels Service League $5,000 Night fund-raiser are now on sale. The event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Gruene Hall. For more information, and tickets, call 629-2493. Flu vaccine ready The 1995 flu vaccine is now available to all adults, 18 years and older, at the Comal County Health Department. Special adult flu clinics will be held during October every Monday from 8 a.m. to 11 a m. and 2 p m. to 4 p.m. on a walk-in basis. The vaccine may also be obtained during regular immunization clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 arn. to 11 a rn. and I p.m. to 4 p.m. The fee for the vaccine is $ IO. Free flu vaccine for those 60 years or older will be provided Oct. 27 at the New Braunfels Senior Citizens Center and on Nov. 3 at the Canyon Lake Action Center. The hours at both free clinics will be 9 a m. to 4 p.m. Call 620-5595 for more information. Peer counseling . The Comal County Family Women’s Center is starting group peer counseling for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Individuals who have experienced violence in their family or have been sexually assaulted in the past are encouraged to use this opportunity to explore how these events have impacted their lives, while joining with others in the therapeutic process. Family violence groups will be held Monday evenings at 6 p.m. and Wednesday mornings at IO am Sexual assault and incest survivor groups will be Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Wednesday mornings at 11 arn. Interested individuals can call Patty Bray at 620-7520 to set up a pre-group appointment. There is no fee for services provided through the Women’s Center. The center is in need of donations of postage stamps, volunteers, three-ring notebooks, digital and infant thermometers and a new sturdy vacuum. Heritage Exhibit The Heritage Society of New Braunfels announces the opening of the 1995 Heritage Exhibit, Nov. 3 to 12 at the Civic Center. In keeping with this Sesquicentennial year of New Braunfels, the theme will be “1845: The Founding of New Braunfels, The Land of My Dreams.” Admission is $3 for adults, 50 cents for ages six to 12, and children under age six are free. The exhibit is open from IO arn. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Plaza Noon Tunes During Wurstfest, the Downtown Association and Main Street are sponsoring Plaza Noon Tunes and brown bag lunches each weekday from noon to I p.m. on the Plaza. Special to-go lunches will be ready at TJ.’s, New Braunfels Coffee Haus, and Sip n’ Sup. Al lunches are $5 and include a drink. Entertainers set to perform are: Don Forres and Pete Williams, Monday, Nov. 6; Tuesday Nov. 7 will be the Canyon High Balladier; Wednesday, Nov. 8 will be the New Braunfels Middle School Choir and David Owens and Friends. Thursday, Nov. 9 will be the New Braunfels High School Polka Band; and Friday, Nov. IO will be David Owens and Friends Vets honored Canyon High School Student Council will honor United States veterans at a special ceremony entitled ‘Honoring All Who Served’ on Nov. IO. All local veterans are invited to attend. Guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Joseph Wine-man. Veterans are asked to be at the CHS Cougar Den at 9 a.m. Nov. IO to meet with student council members. Spaghetti supper The Canyon Lake Eastern Star Chapter 1103 will hold its annual chicken spaghetti dinner and country store Nov. 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Canyon Lake Action Center at 1941 FM 2673 in Sattler. Donations for the dinner are $5 per plate for adults and $3 per plate for children 12 of age and under. The dinner will include drink and dessert. Chili and stew Amencan Legion Post 35 will hold a chili and stew dinner and raffle Sunday, Nov. 12 from 4 p m. to 8 p.m. at 42 IO FM 482 in New Braunfels. The public is invited. Texas Bach Choir The Arts and Entertainment Sen es of Texas Lutheran College presents the Texas Bach Choir in a fun concert of humorous and vaned music on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium at Texas Lutheran College. Community Chorale The New Braunfels Community Chorale will have a rehearsal Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at the usual place, downstairs in the Eden Home. Arthritis program Physical Therapy Unlimited, Comal County Senior Citizens Center, and the South Central Texas Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation will co-sponsor an ‘Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program.” Gasses begin Nov. 13,1995 at the Senior Citizens Center and will run for five weeks. Anyone interested must pre-register by calling Physical Therapy Unlimited at 625-7300. Thanksgiving fun Each month the Landa Recreation Center hosts a special “Children’s Hour” program. This month the theme is Thanksgiving Fun. Join in for an hour of fun activities related to the first Thanksgiving feast. Activities will include crafts, stories and games. Participants must be four or five years old. The program will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Landa Recreation Center. Fee is $3 per child. Pre-registration is required. Fair runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. Proceeds benefit Teen Connection and Peace Lutheran Church. Crop Walk The annual crop walk, to support the millions around the world who labor to supply food and drink to the hungry and thirsty, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19. On-site registration will be held at New Braunfels Presbyterian Church on Howard Street at 1:30 p.m.. Walk length is IO kilometers. To become a crop walker or a Crop Walk sponsor register today by completing the Crop Walk registration form and leave the form with a Crop Walk Recruiter. Local churches have received information packets. SOS Food Bank will receive one-quarter of the money raised locally. Fall Auction The Comal County Bar and Restaurant Association will hold its fall auction Sunday, Nov. 19 from noon to midnight at Solms City Limits Bar and Grill at the comer of Solms Road and FM 482. Auction items will be accepted until Nov. 18 at the bar. Proceeds benefit the CCBRA and Comal County Women’s Shelter. Soup and rolls brunch The Ladies Auxiliary of the Bracken Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual soup and rolls branch Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the Bracken Community Hall. The business meeting will be at 9:30 a.m., and will include planning for the upcoming Christmas Party and election of officers. Call Mary Lou Henschel at 651-6854 for information. Come to Landa Park and see the different birds of the park and learn how they fly with such ease. Learn about the migration patterns of certain birds. The program is for children ages 6 to 14. The program is Wednesday, Nov. 29 front 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Landa Parte at picnic area #4. Fee is $4 per child.
