Employees from 92 area businesses returned surveys to the New Braunfels Committee on Higher Education and San Antonio College research team They were split evenly between male and female About 60 percent were Caucasian and about 30 percent were Hispanic A large majority said classes in New Braunfels would help them pursue higher education goals Most about twothirds said evenings would be the best time for classes Cost nearness to home and courses offered were all important factors in deciding to enroll in a course in New Braunfels Employees responded that they would look for help mcstly in financial aid career planning and study skills in that order Most employees had higher education goals that were job related Fortyseven percent would take classes to improve job skills About a third would enroll in high er education classes to get a better job The employees polled had varying academic goals closely split between fouryear degrees earning a cer tificate earning a twoyear degree and achieving or maintaining a license More employees were interested in computer cours es than any other type The next four in order of pop ularity were English math history management and foreign language The numbers interested in college courses and tech courses were fairly even 36 per cent for college and 29 percent for vocational courses Professional development courses were preferred by 23 percent of the employees The employees were asked to prioritize the onthejob training they needed Computer courses came in first with 391 respon dents rating them first or second priority Business or management came in second and communication cours es came in third The New Braunfels Committee for Higher Educa tion and San Antonio College polled area senior citizens to see goals if college level courses and other vocational training were offered in New Braunfels Only 44 seniors returned surveys however so their results could not be considered a representative sample The
