commercial airlines today to airlift about soldiers from Fort HoocTs 1st Cavalry Division to military exercises in the Middle East as a deterrent to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein The military planned to deploy the troops by military aircraft on Sunday and Monday An advance party of about 80 sol diers in battledress uniform left Fort Hood aboard a C141 cargo plane Sun Texas Today day but got only as far as McGuire Air Force Base Other planes didnt get off the ground at all later Sunday and Monday The delays reportedly were related to the refusal of one unspecified nation to allow the planes to fly over its air space so as not to incur the wrath of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein We had some coordination prob lems but theyve been cleared Pamela Goodman public affairs spokes woman for Fort Hood said Monday The advance party at McGuire Air Force Base should be in the air again she said late Monday afternoon She said the troop deployment from Fort Hood near Killcen for Opera tion Intrinsic Action would be com pleted with flights at noon 4 and 9 today One Iraqibound plane left the Army base about Monday but it carried only cargo and eight people Other troops stood by all day waiting for Thomas D Stone Survivors include his wife Agnes of Bastrop two sons Jess C Stone and wife Tommie of Rocklin and William Michael Stone and wife Carolyn of Garland Texas two daughters Arneita Marie Wramp and husband Chris of Kingsbury Texas and Sharon E Lock and husband David Charles Stone of Tulsa one sister Laura Louise Hughes of Mar shall Texas 19 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren He is also sur vived by a host of nieces and nephews Juanita Campos Sandoval Funeral arrangements are pending at Zoeller Funeral Home for Juanita Campos Sandoval of New Braunfels She passed away Tuesday Aug
